Challenges with Disaster Mortality Data and Measuring Progress Towards the Implementation of the Sendai Framework

open access: yesInternational Journal of Disaster Risk Science, 2019
Disasters exact a heavy toll globally. However, the degree to which we can accurately quantify their impact, in particular mortality, remains challenging.

Using ensemble quantitative precipitation forecast for rainfall-induced shallow landslide predictions

open access: yesGeoscience Letters, 2022
Heavy rainfall brought by typhoons has been recognised as a major trigger of landslides in Taiwan. On average, 3.75 typhoons strike the island every year, and cause large amounts of shallow landslides and debris flow in mountainous region.

Simulations of the East Asian Winter Monsoon on Subseasonal to Seasonal Time Scales Using the Model for Prediction Across Scales

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2021
The Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS) is used to simulate the East Asian winter monsoon (EAWM) over the 2011–2020 winter. The 45 day hindcasts are made with 30 km horizontal resolution and constructed to a time-lagged ensemble system.

Local Reductions

open access: yes, 2015
We reduce non-deterministic time $T \ge 2^n$ to a 3SAT instance $ϕ$ of quasilinear size $|ϕ| = T \cdot \log^{O(1)} T$ such that there is an explicit circuit $C$ that on input an index $i$ of $\log |ϕ|$ bits outputs the $i$th clause, and each output bit of $C$ depends on $O(1)$ input bits. The previous best result was $C$ in NC$^1$.

Mechanical Properties of Improved Multiple-Layers Viscoelastic Damper

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2023
Viscoelastic dampers (VEDs) have been implemented successfully to reduce structural vibrations due to earthquakes and wind events. Conventional VEDs consist of two viscoelastic (VE) layers chemically bounded at their entire contact surface to three steel

L 2 Model Reduction and Variance Reduction

open access: yesIFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2000
The authors study several variance properties related to model reduction for finite impulse response (FIR) and output error (OE) models. The variances of two models, one deduced directly from data and the other by reducing a high order model by \(L_2\) model reduction, are compared.

European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline and EXPeRT Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Management of Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms in Children and Adolescents

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP‐NENs) are extremely rare and clinically heterogeneous. Management has largely been extrapolated from adult practice. This European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline (ESCP), developed by the EXPeRT network in collaboration with adult NEN experts, provides (adult) evidence ...

Health‐Related Quality of Life and Symptom Severity Among Patients With PIK3CA‐Related Overgrowth Spectrum: A Mixed‐Methods Study to Understand Real‐World Experience With Alpelisib Treatment

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background PIK3CA‐related overgrowth spectrum (PROS) includes several rare overgrowth disorders resulting from somatic gain‐of‐function mutations in PIK3CA. Despite treatment advances, including the recent approval of alpelisib for PROS in the United States, literature detailing the patient experience with PROS is limited.
