Simulations of the East Asian Winter Monsoon on Subseasonal to Seasonal Time Scales Using the Model for Prediction Across Scales

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2021
The Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS) is used to simulate the East Asian winter monsoon (EAWM) over the 2011–2020 winter. The 45 day hindcasts are made with 30 km horizontal resolution and constructed to a time-lagged ensemble system.

Using ensemble quantitative precipitation forecast for rainfall-induced shallow landslide predictions

open access: yesGeoscience Letters, 2022
Heavy rainfall brought by typhoons has been recognised as a major trigger of landslides in Taiwan. On average, 3.75 typhoons strike the island every year, and cause large amounts of shallow landslides and debris flow in mountainous region.

Pohlmeyer reduction revisited

open access: yes, 2008
A systematic group theoretical formulation of the Pohlmeyer reduction is presented. It provides a map between the equations of motion of sigma models with target-space a symmetric space M=F/G and a class of integrable multi-component generalizations of ...

Control-oriented implementation and model order reduction of a lithium-ion battery electrochemical model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The use of electrochemical models makes it computationally intractable for online implementation as the model is subject to a complicated mathematical structure including partial-differential equations (PDE).

Mechanical Properties of Improved Multiple-Layers Viscoelastic Damper

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2023
Viscoelastic dampers (VEDs) have been implemented successfully to reduce structural vibrations due to earthquakes and wind events. Conventional VEDs consist of two viscoelastic (VE) layers chemically bounded at their entire contact surface to three steel

Boundary reduction formula [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
An asymptotic theory is developed for general non-integrable boundary quantum field theory in 1+1 dimensions based on the Langrangean description. Reflection matrices are defined to connect asymptotic states and are shown to be related to the Green ...

Certified lattice reduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Quadratic form reduction and lattice reduction are fundamental tools in computational number theory and in computer science, especially in cryptography. The celebrated Lenstra-Lenstra-Lov\'asz reduction algorithm (so-called LLL) has been improved in many

Nonstandard Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Subject to some conditions, the input data for the Drinfeld-Sokolov construction of KdV type hierarchies is a quadruplet $(\A,\Lambda, d_1, d_0)$, where the $d_i$ are $\Z$-gradations of a loop algebra $\A$ and $\Lambda\in \A$ is a semisimple element of ...

Reduction Corporoplasty [PDF]

open access: yesInternational braz j urol, 2015
Here we present the first video demonstration of reduction corporoplasty in the management of phallic disfigurement in a 17 year old man with a history sickle cell disease and priapism.Surgical management of aneurysmal dilation of the corpora has yet to be defined in the literature. We preformed bilateral elliptical incisions over the lateral corpora as
