Reduction of Sasakian manifolds [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1999
We show that the contact reduction can be specialized to Sasakian manifolds. We link this Sasakian reduction to K\"ahler reduction by considering the K\"ahler cone over a Sasakian manifold. We present examples of Sasakian manifolds obtained by $S^1$ reduction of standard Sasakian spheres.

Violence Reduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The 1990s have seen a significant decline in the occurrence of violent crimes nationwide, especially in major metropolitan areas. Yet, the number of person-on-person crimes in which youth appear as either offenders or victims remains persistently high in

Public health, human rights and the harm reduction paradigm: from risk reduction to vulnerability reduction

open access: yes, 2001
This paper explores the utility of expanding the harm reduction paradigm to incorporate vulnerability reduction. The thrust of harm reduction interventions to date, particularly in injection drug use, has been risk reduction. Many interventions have been

Application Capacity Evaluation of HJ-1-C towards Ice Disaster during On-orbit Test Period

open access: yesLeida xuebao, 2014
On November 19, 2012, HJ-1-C was launched successfully, which is the first civil Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite in China and is also the only S-band SAR on-orbit satellite in the world.

Control strategy for large‐scale fires near power transmission lines and its application

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, 2021
To prevent fires causing the power transmission lines trip, a control strategy including the methods of fire forecasting, fire monitoring and fire extinguishing for large‐scale fires under power transmission lines is proposed.

Polynomial-time kernel reductions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
In the framework of computational complexity and in an effort to define a more natural reduction for problems of equivalence, we investigate the recently introduced kernel reduction, a reduction that operates on each element of a pair independently. This paper details the limitations and uses of kernel reductions.

Three-dimensional matching is NP-Hard [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The standard proof of NP-Hardness of 3DM provides a power-$4$ reduction of 3SAT to 3DM. In this note, we provide a linear-time reduction. Under the exponential time hypothesis, this reduction improves the runtime lower bound from $2^{o(\sqrt[4]{m})}$ (under the standard reduction) to $2^{o(m)}$.

Solovay reduction and continuity [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
The objective of this study is a better understanding of the relationships between reduction and continuity. Solovay reduction is a variation of Turing reduction based on the distance of two real numbers. We characterize Solovay reduction by the existence of a certain real function that is computable (in the sense of computable analysis) and Lipschitz ...

Spontaneous Dimensional Reduction?

open access: yes, 2012
Over the past few years, evidence has begun to accumulate suggesting that spacetime may undergo a "spontaneous dimensional reduction" to two dimensions near the Planck scale.

Downscaling Taiwan precipitation with a residual deep learning approach

open access: yesGeoscience Letters
In response to the growing demand for high-resolution rainfall data to support disaster prevention in Taiwan, this study presents an innovative approach for downscaling precipitation data.
