New Numerical Software for Model and Controller Reduction

open access: yes, 2002
In this report we describe the recently developed model and controller reduction software for SLICOT within Task II.B of the NICONET Project. A powerful collection of user callable Fortran 77 routines has been implemented based on the latest algorithmic ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Infinitely many solutions for Hamiltonian system with critical growth

open access: yesAdvances in Nonlinear Analysis
In this article, we consider the following elliptic system of Hamiltonian-type on a bounded domain:−Δu=K1(∣y∣)∣v∣p−1v,inB1(0),−Δv=K2(∣y∣)∣u∣q−1u,inB1(0),u=v=0on∂B1(0),\left\{\begin{array}{ll}-\Delta u={K}_{1}\left(| y| ){| v| }^{p-1}v,\hspace{1.0em ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

A reduction method for semi-infinite programming by means of a global stochastic approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We describe a reduction algorithm for solving semi-infinite programming problems. The proposed algorithm uses the simulated annealing method equipped with a function stretching as a multi-local procedure, and a penalty technique for the finite ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Energy-Storage Balanced Reduction of Port-Hamiltonian Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Supported by the framework of dissipativity theory, a procedure based on physical energy to balance and reduce port-Hamiltonian systems with collocated inputs and outputs is presented.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
