Balanced truncation model reduction of periodic systems

open access: yes, 2000
The balanced truncation approach to model reduction is considered for linear discrete-time periodic systems with time-varying dimensions. Stability of the reduced model is proved and a guaranteed additive bound is derived for the approximation error ...

Ir-C xerogels synthesized by sol-gel method for NO reduction

open access: yes, 2008
Iridium-carbon (Ir-C) xerogels were synthesized via a one-pot sol-gel polycondensation of hexachloroiridic acid, resorcinol and formaldehyde, followed by carbonization in a nitrogen atmosphere at 500-1000 degrees C.

Less is Different: Emergence and Reduction Reconciled [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This is a companion to another paper. Together they rebut two widespread philosophical doctrines about emergence. The first, and main, doctrine is that emergence is incompatible with reduction.

Reduction Method for Mobile Laser Scanning Data

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2018
Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS) technology acquires a huge volume of data in a very short time. In many cases, it is reasonable to reduce the size of the dataset with eliminating points in such a way that the datasets, after reduction, meet specific ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Optimizing preprocessing method of recursive-BKZ lattice reduction algorithm

open access: yes, 2015
Lattice problems are considered as the key elements in many areas of computer science as well as in cryptography; the most important of which is the shortest vector problem (called SVP in short) and its approximate variants.

A Two-Microphone Noise Reduction Method in Highly Non-stationary Multiple-Noise-Source Environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper, we propose a two-microphone noise reduction method to deal with non-stationary interfering noises in multiple-noise-source environments in which the traditional two-microphone algorithms cannot function well.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Controller reduction using accuracy-enhancing methods

open access: yes, 2005
The efficient solution of several classes of controller approximation problems by using frequency-weighted balancing related model reduction approaches is considered.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
