Continuous reductive smelting of steel
Steel in Translation, 2016Traditionally, iron and steel production is based on a two-stage system consisting of a blast furnace and a converter, which is characterized not only by high productivity but also by copious generation of gaseous emissions and solid wastes. Reductive smelting in a blast furnace with unavoidable carburization of the metal—the formation of molten iron ...

Reductive smelting of iron ore
Steel in Translation, 2015The carburization of iron is described. Means of preventing carburization by direct reduction of the metal with solid carbon are considered. The interaction between iron, manganese, and chromium oxides and solid carbon is studied in terms of the associated change in dissociation pressure. On that basis, the carburization of iron may be prevented.

Smelting reduction of iron ore
Steel Research, 1989On the basis of MIP development several process concepts for primary ironmaking technology were investigated. In the smelting reduction process described the reduction of iron ore occurs in three stages: in the first step the ore is preheated and prereduced in a cyclon‐heat exchanger system. In the second step it is melted.

Ilmenite Smelted by Oxygen-Enriched Top-Blown Smelting Reduction
Journal of Iron and Steel Research International, 2011Abstract Total ilmenite from Yunnan, China, difficult to smelt in blast furnace, was smelted by oxygen-enriched top-blown smelting reduction ironmaking technology. Much more details on smelting were discussed. Specifically, the influence of reduction temperature, slag basicity and molar ratio of carbon to oxygen on the reduction quality level ...

Reduction and Smelting of Vanadium Titanomagnetite Metallized Pellets
JOM, 2018Reduction and smelting of the vanadium titanomagnetite metallized pellets have been experimentally investigated in this study. By using the high-temperature smelting, rapid quenching, and electron probe x-ray microanalysis (EPMA) technique, the effects of basicity, reaction time, and graphite reductant amount were investigated. The vanadium contents in

Direct reduction and smelting reduction – an overview
Steel Research, 1989A survey is given on the current state of direct reduction and smelting reduction processes. Several developments, such as coal injection, top‐gas recycling etc., contribute to decrease the coke consumption in the blast furnace. Coal‐based as well as gas‐based direct reduction processes have not succeeded in Western Europe.

Slag foaming in smelting reduction processes
Steel Research, 1989In order to understand the effect of slag composition on foaming in the smelting reduction process, slag foaming was quantitatively studied for CaO–SiO2–FeO slags in the temperature ranging 1250–1400 °C. It was found that slag foaming could be characterized by a foaming index Σ which is equal to the retention or travelling time of the gas in the slag ...

Smelting reduction in iron baths
Steel Research, 1989A joint venture between Klöckner‐Werke and CRA was formed to work out the application of coal injection into the iron bath to smelting reduction. In the Hlsmelt process of CRA smelting reduction of prereduced fine ore is to be carried out directly in the iron bath. Post combustion, different coal grades, and metallurgical reactions were investigated in

Development in smelting reduction processes
Steel Research, 1989Corex process is a smelting reduction process to produce hot metal of blast‐furnace quality. Coal is used instead of coke, and this replacement makes production costs of hot metal decrease. Iron ore reduction and melting is separated into two steps: in a melter gasifier reducing gas is generated and melting energy is produced by coal gasification; iron

Indirect reduction in blast-furnace smelting
Steel in Translation, 2016The influence of the intensity of blast-furnace smelting on the effectiveness of the indirect reduction of iron from wustite is considered on the basis of the Rist model, for specially prepared batch and coke of satisfactory quality. In the case of practically stable and effective reduction, broad variation in the smelting intensity in terms of oxygen ...
