Reference ballistic imaging database performance

Forensic Science International, 2004
Ballistic imaging databases allow law enforcement to link recovered cartridge cases to other crime scenes and to firearms. The success of these databases has led many to propose that all firearms in circulation be entered into a reference ballistic image database (RBID).

Reference databases

2018
Abstract DNA references databases are a prerequisite to identify sequences obtained from a metabarcoding experiments. Chapter 3 “Reference databases” gives a brief description of the content and structure of existing generalistic resources and proposes guidelines to construct reference databases specific to the metabarcode of interest ...

Calculation Cross-Reference Database

2002 International Joint Power Generation Conference, 2002
Calculations form the backbone of every design. Engineers and designers rely on calculations to support the technical adequacy of any system, structure or component (SSC). Without representative calculations, the design, construction, operation, maintenance or modification of any SSC would remain unanalyzed, non-configured and potentially unsafe.

Visualizing reference databases

1994
This paper describes a graphical method for visualizing reference database searches. The motivation for inventing this technique comes from analyzing the Current Index of Statistics reference database. This database contains 128 thousand references to articles from statistical journals, conference proceedings, and books, published during the last 20 ...

The NIOSH Retrospective Pesticide Reference Database

Journal of Agricultural Safety and Health, 2009
For the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) case-control study of glioma among non-metropolitan residents, pesticide information was considered critical. Responses to open-ended questions about pesticide exposures had to be grouped for analysis.

THEREDA - Thermodynamic Reference Database

Abstract. Part of the process to ensure the safety of radioactive waste disposal is the predictive modeling of the solubility of all relevant toxic components in a complex aqueous solution. To ensure the reliability of thermodynamic equilibrium modeling as well as to facilitate the comparison of such calculations done by different institutions it is ...

The reference ballistic imaging database revisited

Forensic Science International, 2015
A reference ballistic image database (RBID) contains images of cartridge cases fired in firearms that are in circulation: a ballistic fingerprint database. The performance of an RBID was investigated a decade ago by De Kinder et al. using IBIS(®) Heritage™ technology. The results of that study were published in this journal, issue 214.

Diversity in database reference behavior

Proceedings of the 1989 ACM SIGMETRICS international conference on Measurement and modeling of computer systems, 1989
Over the past fifteen years, empirical studies of the reference behavior of a number of database systems have produced seemingly contradictory results. The presence or absence of locality of reference and sequentiality have both been reported (or denied) in various papers.
