Elasticity Theory of Plates and a Refined Theory

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1979
A method for the solution of three-dimensional elasticity equations is presented and is applied to the problem of thick plates. Through this method three governing differential equations, the well-known biharmonic equation, a shear equation and a third governing equation, are deduced directly and systematically from Navier’s equations. It is then shown

The refined theory of piezoelectric thick plates

2009 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications (SPAWDA 2009), 2009
Based on linear piezoelasticity theory, without requirement of any ad hoc assumptions concerning the deformation or the stress state, various two-dimensional equations have been deduced systematically and directly from the three-dimensional theory of thick rectangular plates by using the general solution of transversely isotropic piezoelasticity and ...

The Refined Theory of Thermoelastic Rectangular Plates

Journal of Thermal Stresses, 2007
The problem of deducing two-dimensional theory from three-dimensional theory for a thermoelastic isotropic body is investigated. Based on thermoelasticity theory, the refined plate theory is derived by using Biot's solution of thermoelasticity and Lur'e method without ad hoc assumptions.

On Certain Refined Theories for Plate Bending

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1988
This note presents the derivation of an eighth-order theory for plate bending which decomposes the plate flexure as occurring in two stages. During the basic stage of flexure the plate bends in accordance with the Kirchhoff hypothesis, while during an additional flexural stage the effects of transverse shear deformation are incorporated into the theory.

On Refined Theories of Beams, Plates, and Shells

Journal of Composite Materials, 1992
This paper deals with refined beam, plate, and shell theories which are based on the reduction of the three-dimensional elasticity theory by assuming an approx imation of the displacements through the thickness. Conditions which should be imposed on this approximation to provide the consistency of the theory are obtained.

A Refined Shear Deformation Plate Theory

International Journal for Computational Methods in Engineering Science and Mechanics, 2011
An improved higher-order shear deformation theory of plates is presented in this paper. The theory is developed from the transverse shear deformation theory presented by Ambartsumian [11]. The present plate theory contains kinematics of higher-order displacement field of plates, a system of higher-order differential equilibrium equations in terms of ...

Numerical methods and refined plate theories

Computers & Structures, 1982
Abstract A number of refined plate theories are available which, although similar in their basic assumptions, offer a wide choice of variables in which problems may be formulated. The implications for solution of plate problems by numerical methods are discussed and the significance of the formulation chosen is examined.

A two variable refined plate theory for laminated composite plates

Composite Structures, 2009
A two variable refined plate theory of laminated composite plates is developed in this paper. The theory accounts for parabolic distribution of the transverse shear strains, and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factor.

A Refined Theory for Laminated Anisotropic Plates

1991
A theory for bending of laminated plates has been developed. This is a new high-order theory that is different from the classic high-order theory in two respects: (1) both the stresses and displacements between layers of the plate are continuous in this theory; (2) the governing equations as well as the unknown functions in this theory are five in ...

Free vibrations of plate using two variable refined plate theory

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2006
The novelty of this paper is the use of two variable refined plate theory for free vibration analysis of plate. Unlike any other theory, the theory is variationally consistent and gives two governing equations, which are only inertially coupled and there is no elastic coupling at all.
