A “Cool” Route to Battery Electrode Material Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Ice‐stripping, a novel sub‐zero electrode delamination technique, enables >90% recovery of the electrode materials from manufacturing scrap and end‐of‐life batteries. Water is sprayed upon a porous electrode and quickly freezes when placed on a cold surface. The foil is peeled away, leaving behind the black mass with the morphology retained.

Tuning Cation (Dis)Order in Cr‐Based Li‐Excess Oxide Cathode Materials to Improve Li+ Transport Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Partially disordered Cr‐based Li‐rich oxides are developed, featuring ordered, layered‐like environments integrated through a common oxygen sublattice with cation‐mixed regions. This activates new Li+ diffusion channels, enabling these cathodes to be used in their as‐synthesized form with micron‐sized particles.

Evaluation of the slag regime and desulphurization of steel with synthetic slag containing Cr2O3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The paper focuses on an evaluation of the slag regime and steel desulphurisation in a ladle with the help of synthetic slags based on Al2O3 containing various mass amounts of Cr2O3 varying from 0.3 % to 3.0 %.

Pretreatment and Valorization of Critical Materials from Lithium‐Ion Batteries Using Electrostatic and Magnetic Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
This study investigates how magnetic and electrostatic separation processes can be applied to coarsely shredded Li‐ion batteries to effectively recover high‐purity concentrates of shredded cathode electrode, shredded anode electrode, and shredded separator.
