A Treatise on Electro-Metallurgy: Embracing the Application of Electrolysis to the Plating, Depositing, Smelting, and Refining of Various Metals, and to the Reproduction of Printing Surfaces and Art-work, etc [PDF]
THE work of revising the excellent treatise of the late Mr. W. G. McMillan has, on the whole, been admirably done by Mr. Cooper, although there still remain a few slight errors in the body of the work which might have been corrected. For example, it is manifestly an error to recommend for nickel deposition a solution of 8 pounds of nickel ammonium ...

Al–Ti–B grain refiners via powder metallurgy processing of Al/K2TiF6/KBF4 powder blends
Abstract The response to thermal exposure of ball-milled Al/K 2 TiF 6 /KBF 4 powder blends was investigated to explore the potential of PM processing for the manufacture of Al–Ti–B alloys. K 2 TiF 6 starts to be reduced by aluminium as early as 220 °C when ball-milled Al/K 2 TiF 6 /KBF 4 powder blends are heated.

Determination of RTD Curves for Aluminium Refining Process Conducted in Batch Reactor – Physical Modelling [PDF]
It is really hard to determine the phenomena occurring during aluminum refining process using argon blowing through the liquid metal in industrial conditions. The solution of such problem is physical modelling. This kind of modelling gives possibility to determine the level of dispersion of the refining gas in liquid metal.

The Impact of AL-TI-B Grain-Refiners from Different Manufacturers on Wrought AL-alloy
To investigate the impact of various Al-Ti-B grain-refiners on solidification and grain-refining performance, a wrought aluminium alloy AA6182 was used. Three different grain-refiners from different manufacturers were used to establish the efficiency, i.e. contact time before casting, on the primary solidification and grain formation size.

A series of Al-5Ti-1B master alloys were obtained via fluoride salt process by holding them between 780°C and 880°C for 10-90 min. The influence of holding temperature and time during preparation on the microstructure and its refining performance were investigated by X-ray diffractometer, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy equ ipped ...

In this work, the authors proposed a modification of the working space one-strand tundish adapted for slab casting process. Numerical simulations of liquid steel flow in the considered flow reactor were performed. The tundish is equipped with a dam with a multi-hole filter. Two variants of the filter hole arrangement were tested and their effect on the

AbstractCarbon-rich sources, such as coal and carbon monoxide gas, have been extensively used in the metal industry as the reducing agent of metal oxides and as the energy source for metal production. Consequently, the extractive metal sector contributes to approximately 9.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
