Microstructures and grain refinement performance of Al–Ti–B–C grain refiner via powder metallurgy [PDF]

open access: possibleRare Metals, 2015
The Al-5Ti-0.5B-0.5C grain refiner was prepared by powder metallurgy (PM). Microstructures of the grain refiner and its grain refinement performance in commercially pure aluminum (Al) were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

Insight into ultra-refined grains of aluminum matrix composites via deformation-driven metallurgy

Composites Communications, 2021
Abstract Ultra-refined grains were obtained in few-layer graphene nanoplatelets reinforced aluminum matrix composites via deformation-driven metallurgy under coupled thermo-mechanical effect. Fragmentation, thinning and re-dispersion of the reinforcements accelerated the nucleation of recrystallized grains and inhibited the migration of grain ...

Ionic liquid metallurgy: novel electrolytes for metals extraction and refining technology

Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, 2006
Ionic liquids (ILs) are molten salts that are liquid at or below room temperature. ILs have some unique properties compared to aqueous solution and regular organic liquids. These properties include very low vapor pressures and not emitting organic vapor to the environment; low melting points and wide temperature ranges for the liquid phase (up to 400°C)

Technological Challenges in Extractive Metallurgy and Refining of Nb, Ta and Preparation of their Compounds & Alloys

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2016
Efforts have been put towards industrial adaptability of the useful knowledge gained from lab scale to reliable pilot scale for production of refractory metals like Ta & Nb. Electron beam refining is used for production of these refractory metals in their pure form.

Effect of the microstructure refinement by powder metallurgy on the oxidation behavior of Nb-6Mo-20Si-3Cr silicide-based alloy

Materials Characterization, 2020
Abstract This study investigated the effect of the microstructure refinement on the oxidation resistance of the Nb-6Mo-20Si-3Cr silicide-based alloy based on how the oxidation behavior of the alloy is severely affected by its microstructure size. Alloy powders were fabricated by a hydrogenation-dehydrogenation method, and were consolidated by a spark

Oxygen scavenging, grain refinement and mechanical properties improvement in powder metallurgy titanium and titanium alloys with CaB6

Powder Technology, 2018
Abstract The effect of calcium hexa boride (CaB6) on microstructure and mechanical properties of powder metallurgy CP-Ti and Ti-6Al-4 V was studied. CaB6 can scavenge the solid solution O during sintering, producing Ca-Ti-O and TiB second phases. These Ca-containing particles precipitate in the grain boundary to inhibit grain growth, resulting in the

Refining And Recycling Metallurgy In The Future

1992
Abstract Refining metallurgy deals with the treatment of the extracted or recycled metal by purification and alloying. Traditionally, the refining metallurgist has had a good knowledge of extractive metallurgy and of the impurities present in the raw metal.

Impurity scavenging, microstructural refinement and mechanical properties of powder metallurgy titanium and titanium alloys by a small addition of cerium silicide

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2013
Abstract A small addition (≤0.5 wt%) of cerium silicide (CeSi 2 ) to powder metallurgy (PM) commercially pure Ti (CP-Ti), Ti–6Al–4V and Ti–10V–2Fe–3Al (all in wt%) results in substantial microstructural refinement and noticeably improved ductility with marginally improved sintered density. CeSi 2 is unstable and decomposes between 1423 K and 1473 K.
