Reflection and Transmission of Elastic Waves by a Periodic Array of Cracks
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1985The interaction of elastic waves with a planar array of periodically spaced cracks of equal length is investigated. For normal incidence, reflection and transmission of longitudinal and transverse wave has been considered. Application of finite Fourier transform techniques reduces the solution of the mixed-boundary value problem for a typical strip to ...

Failure of reflective metal coatings by cracking
Thin Solid Films, 1982Abstract The relationship between point defects and severe cracking of metal films is explored. Tests carried out on coatings of chromium, copper and nickel show that cracks radiate from pinholes in the metal film. This effect has been attributed to stress concentration in the neighborhood of the pinhole.

Effect of using geosynthetics on reflective crack prevention
International Journal of Pavement Engineering, 2014In order to overcome reflective cracks, different techniques have been developed in the past, the most important of which is the use of geosynthetic materials. It has been proven in many studies carried out in this field that using geosynthetics can delay reflective crack initiation and reduce the speed of propagation.

Solution for Distressed Pavements and Crack Reflection
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2003It is commonly accepted that cracks in aged asphalt pavements will reflect through seal coat and overlay applications. Pavement fabric placed under asphalt concrete overlays will slow this crack reflection, but not stop it. Nineteen years of experience working with the same fabric under a double chip seal has shown that using a modified technique ...

The oblique reflection of a rayleigh wave from a crack tip
International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1971Abstract The reflection of a free-surface Rayleigh wave from the edge of a half-plane crack in an unbounded isotropic elastic solid is considered. The time-harmonic surface wave, propagating on one face of the crack, is obliquely incident on the edge so that the problem is three-dimensional.
