Purpose. To report on an improved botulinum toxin injection with conjunctival microincision for beginners, and to determine the effectiveness of botulinum toxin A (BTXA) in the treatment of patients with acute acquired comitant esotropia (AACE). Methods. Medical records of 29 AACE patients were retrospectively analyzed.

The Trigeminocardiac Reflex — An Example of Reflexive Heart Rhythm Change [PDF]
The trigeminocardiac reflex (TCR) is defined as the sudden onset of parasympathetic dysrhythmia, sympathetic hypotension, apnoea or gastric hyper-motility during mechanical/thermal stimulation of any of the sensory branches of the trigeminal nerve.

Effect of Ice Slush on Reducing the Oculocardiac Reflex During Strabismus Surgery
BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to explore whether ice slush (IS) causing local hypothermia can effectively inhibit the oculocardiac reflex (OCR) during strabismus surgery.

Abnormal oculocardiac reflex in two patients with Marcus Gunn syndrome
Marcus Gunn phenomenon is seen in 4 to 6% of congenital ptosis patients. We report two cases of abnormal oculocardiac reflex during ptosis correction surgery. Marcus Gunn syndrome is an autosomal dominant condition with incomplete penetrance.

Definition and Diagnosis of the Trigeminocardiac Reflex: A Grounded Theory Approach for an Update
BackgroundThe trigeminocardiac reflex (TCR) is defined as sudden onset of parasympathetic dysrhythmias including hemodynamic irregularities, apnea, and gastric hypermotility during stimulation of sensory branches of the trigeminal nerve.

Oculocardiac reflex incidence in post-traumatic orbital reconstruction surgery
The oculocardiac reflex (OCR) is a well-recognised phenomenon characterised by cardiac arrhythmia precipitated by various electrical, physical or chemical stimuli to branches of the trigeminal nerve.

Oculocardiac reflex from the empty orbit [PDF]
Summary Two cases of profound bradycardia (one progressing to asystole) during orbital surgery where the relevant eye had been removed years earlier are reported. Cessation of stimulation was followed by recovery of heart rate. Intravenous atropine prevented further bradycardia.

Asystole Due to Oculocardiac Reflex during Surgical Repair of an Orbital Blowout Fracture
Summary: Bradycardia and asystole due to oculocardiac reflex (OCR) are potential intraoperative complications of periocular surgery. We report a case of asystole due to OCR that occurred during surgical repair performed 40 hours after an orbital blowout ...
