High levels of genetic variation and differentiation in wild tropical gourds provide a novel resource for cucurbit crop improvement

The genetic variation of crop wild relatives will be key for our survival, as environmental change represents an increasing global threat for agriculture and food security. Cucurbita lundelliana and Cucurbita okeechobeensis subsp. martinezii are wild relatives of cultivated squashes and pumpkins that could be used for crop improvement.

Effects of floral resources on honey bee populations in Mexico: Using dietary metabarcoding to examine landscape quality in agroecosystems

Ecology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2024.
This study investigates how landscape diversity and climatic factors affect the populations and nutritional health of honey bee colonies in Mexico. It was found that greater landscape diversity correlates with higher pollen diversity, while areas with more agriculture and urbanization show lower bee densities.
