Spectral response of Cantor multilayers made of materials with negative refractive index [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Lett. A Vol. 301, pp. 377-381 (2002), 2002
Whereas Cantor multilayers made of an isotropic dielectric-magnetic material with positive refractive index will show power-law characteristics, low-order Cantor multilayers made of materials with negative refractive index will not exhibit the power-law nature. A reason for this anomalous behavior is presented.

Figure of Merit Enhancement of a Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor Using a Low-Refractive-Index Porous Silica Film

open access: yesItalian National Conference on Sensors, 2017
In this paper; the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor with a porous silica film was studied. The effect of the thickness and porosity of the porous silica film on the performance of the sensor was analyzed.

Dislocation Distribution, Crystallographic Texture Evolution, and Plastic Inhomogeneity of Inconel 718 Fabricated by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Spatial distribution of microstructure in Inconel 718 3D‐printed with bidirectional strategy with no rotation and chessboard strategy is studied. The former results in a highly ordered arrangement of coarse grains separated by line clusters of dislocation‐dense fine grains. This arrangement is disrupted by the chessboard strategy.

Soft‐Layered Composites with Wrinkling‐Activated Multi‐Linear Elastic Behavior, Stress Mitigation, and Enhanced Strain Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, exciting new bi‐/multi‐linear elastic behavior of soft elastic composites that accompany the activation of wrinkling in the embedded interfacial layers is analyzed. The new features and performance of these composite materials, including dramatic enhancements in energy storage, can be tailored by the concentration of interfacial layers ...

Simulation of Inhomogeneous Refractive Index Fields Induced by Hot Tailored Forming Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a simulation model for simulating inhomogeneous refractive index fields (IRIF) in hot‐forged components, accounting for thermal influences and complex geometries. Through this simulation, a priori knowledge about the propagation of the IRIF can be obtained, allowing for the positioning of the component or an optical measurement ...

Studies of Relation Between Turbidity and Refractive Indeks of Bottled Water in The Area of Banda Aceh by Using Interferometer Murty Method

open access: yesJournal of Aceh Physics Society, 2012
Bottled water is clean water ready to drink quickly without cooking however, it is not all of the bottled water have a good quality. The quality of water can be observed from the optical properties of water, such as clarity and refractive index.

Refractive index of dense materials [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
We show that applying the Lorentz-Lorenz transformation to the refractive index of metals, semiconductors and insulators allows for a less empirical modeling of this refractive index.

Non‐Destructive and Mechanical Characterization of the Bond Quality of Co‐Extruded Titanium‐Aluminum Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the bond quality of co‐extruded aluminum–titanium hybrid profiles, focusing on the lateral angular co‐extrusion (LACE) process. It examines how heat treatments (HT) affect intermetallic phase formation, bond strength, and material properties.

Spatial Frequency Multiplexing of Fiber-Optic Interferometric Refractive Index Sensors Based on Graded-Index Multimode Fibers

open access: yesSensors, 2012
Fiber-optic interferometric sensors based on graded-index multimode fibers have very high refractive-index sensitivity, as we previously demonstrated. In this paper, spatial-frequency multiplexing of this type of fiber-optic refractive index sensors is ...

Negative refraction and Negative refractive index in an optical uniaxial absorbent medium [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
This work demonstrates the existence of both negative refraction and a negative refractive index in an optical uniaxial absorbent medium that can be characterized by ordinary and extraordinary refractive indices. Negative refraction occurs in any absorbent uniaxial medium if the real part of the extraordinary index is less than its imaginary part.
