Multimode interference tapered fiber refractive index sensors

Applied Optics, 2012
Real-time monitoring of the fabrication process of tapering down a multimode-interference-based fiber structure is presented. The device is composed of a pure silica multimode fiber (MMF) with an initial 125 μm diameter spliced between two single-mode fibers. The process allows a thin MMF with adjustable parameters to obtain a high signal transmittance,

Ultrasensitive photonic crystal fiber refractive index sensor

Optics Letters, 2009
We introduce a microfluidic refractive index sensor based on a directional coupler architecture using solid-core photonic crystal fibers. The sensor achieves very high sensitivity by coupling the core mode to a mode in the adjacent fluid-filled waveguide that is beyond modal cutoff, and with strong field overlap.

Infrared metamaterial refractive-index-based sensor

Journal of the Optical Society of America B, 2020
We have introduced an infrared refractive-index-based sensor operating at the infrared frequency region. In designing the sensor, we have used a metamaterial structure with unit cells composed of two metallic layers, the first involving two metallic bars and slabs, and the second containing a uniform metallic sheet.

A Terahertz Metamaterial Absorber Based Refractive Index Sensor with High Quality Factor

European Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2021
A terahertz metamaterial absorber is designed in this paper which can sense the changes in the refractive index of the surrounding medium. The design consists of a defected patch inside a square ring on a Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) substrate, which provides

An optofluidic refractive index sensor based on partial refraction

Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical, 2010
Abstract This article reports on an optofluidic refractive index sensor based on partial refraction. The sample to be measured is injected into a cladding sensing microchannel. The refraction angle and the optical reflectivity change with the variation of the refractive index of the cladding liquid.

Multipoint Fibre Optic Refractive Index Sensors

SPIE Proceedings, 1986
We propose a multisensor network where the refractive index modulators are distributed in cascade along the optical fibre. Reflections at fibre glass-monitoring medium interfaces provide a train of time multiplexed pulses. Backscattered radiation in the fibre serves as a reference channel for the individual sensors which can be designed for temperature,

Refractive index sensor for sensing high refractive index bioliquids at the THz frequency

Journal of the Optical Society of America B, 2021
In this paper, a highly sensitive and low loss refractive index (RI) biosensor for high RI bio-analytes detection, such as for cholesterol, nicotine, and bacillus bacteria, is proposed. A novel, to the best of our knowledge, decagonal structure with porous core photonic crystal fiber (PC-PCF) is introduced.

Fiber optic liquid refractive index sensor

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2015
In this present work we report fabrication of fiber optic liquid refractive index (RI) measurement sensor based on Michelson Interferometer method. This sensor was assembled by using graded index multimode (MM) fiber with core diameter 50 µm and the cladding of fiber was removed by simple chemical method. To perform this experiment a 2×2 3dB coupler is

Temperature-insensitive hybrid interferometric liquid refractive index sensor

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2021
A temperature-insensitive all fiber Fabry–Pérot (F–P) and Mach–Zehnder (M–Z) hybrid compact structure and its sensing characteristics are proposed and theoretically and experimentally demonstrated. In one sensor, two kinds of sensing principles are existing, which is shown in the sensing process that with the increase in the refractive index (RI) of ...

Encrypted and tunable graphene‐based metasurface refractive index sensor

Microwave and optical technology letters (Print), 2021
Encryption is a very essential part to secure data communication in today's world where there is a threat of stealing data. We have proposed a graphene‐based metasurface biosensor for sensing and encryption applications.
