Therapeutic Implants: Mechanobiologic Enhancement of Osteogenic, Angiogenic, and Myogenic Responses in Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells on 3D‐Printed Titanium Truss

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates a synergistic effect between 3D‐printed surface features and mechanical micro‐strain in enhancing the osteogenic, angiogenic, and myogenic responses of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs). Load‐induced mechanotransduction, facilitated by the implant's architectural design, significantly amplifies hMSC differentiation.

Human Skin Models in Biophotonics: Materials, Methods, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review discusses how the optical properties of human skin can be replicated in human skin models. It describes the principles, materials, and techniques used to develop artificial skin for biophotonics research. Finally, the article highlights recent advances and shows how these models improve the study of light‐skin interactions without the need ...

Ocular biometrics in eyes with different white-to-white corneal diameter in young myopic adults

open access: yesScientific Reports
The interactions between white-to-white corneal diameter (WTW) and other ocular biometrics are important for planning of refractive surgery and understanding of ocular structural changes in myopia, but such interactions are rarely investigated in young ...

Visual outcomes after vitrectomy for epiretinal membrane in pseudophakic eyes with a diffractive trifocal intraocular lens: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2022
Background Diffractive intraocular lenses (IOLs) could affect visual acuity in patients with macular pathologies such as epiretinal membrane (ERM) and could influence the results of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for ERM removal in pseudophakic eyes with ...

Emergence of Refractive Surgery [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Ophthalmology, 2000
A major story of the last 2 decades of the 20th century has been the emergence of refractive surgery. Initially extremely controversial, with modest predictability and debatable safety and long-term stability, 1 surgical modification of corneal curvature has come to be well accepted by the profession and the public. The number of these procedures that

Multifunctional Neural Probes Enable Bidirectional Electrical, Optical, and Chemical Recording and Stimulation In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Convergence drawing is used to create flexible, microscale, multifunctional fiber‐based neural probes. Optimized materials selection enables individual devices to perform neural recording, electrical stimulation, optogenetics, fiber photometry, fluid delivery, and voltammetric neurotransmitter detection in rodents.

Comparison of automated corneal endothelial cell analysis in healthy and postoperative eyes with phakic intraocular lens: a cross-sectional study and literature review

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology
Purpose Measurement of corneal endothelial cells is critical for postoperative evaluation of phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) surgery. However, inter-instrument differences in corneal endothelial cell density (ECD) after pIOL implantation have not yet been
