Laser produced plasma refractometry
A method of probing beam refraction is suggested for the investigation of laserproduced plasma with high density gradients. The refraction angle α of a probing ray as a function of ray impact parameter p is used as input data. Different experimental realizations of α(p) measurements are considered.

Calibrating evanescent-wave penetration depths for biological TIRF microscopy
Roughly half of a cells proteins are located at or near the plasma membrane. In this restricted space the cell senses its environment, signals to its neighbors and ex-changes cargo through exo- and endocytotic mechanisms.

New polymers for phase partitioning [PDF]
The synthesizing of several polyethylene glycols having crown ethers attached is reported. This work led to the identification of three new polymer types which promise to be more effective at selectively binding specific cell types. Work was completed on

Integrated optics refractometry: sensitivity in relation to spectral shifts [PDF]
A new variant of the Vernier-effect based sensor reported in ref. 1 is introduced. Both sensor types may show a huge index induced spectral shift. It will be shown in a poster presentation that with such sensors, as well as with surface plasmon based ...

Use of clinic refractometer at farm as a tool to estimate the IgG content in goat colostrum
Refractometry has been proposed as a farm technique to estimate the IgG concentration in colostrum. In order to validate the method in goat colostrum using a clinical refractometer, 216 colostrum and milk samples were obtained from 54 dairy goats ...
