Mullite macro-needles for reinforcement of refractory castables

open access: yesCerâmica, 2022
Ceramic macro-needles incorporation as reinforcement in commercial refractory castable was studied. Ceramic macro-needles (Ø2x20 mm) were made from kaolinite clay and gibbsite to obtain mullite as the main crystalline phase.

Effect of Specimen Size on the Resistance to Thermal Shock of Refractory Castables Containing Eutectic Aggregates [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2015
Thermal shock is one of the most severe conditions to which a refractory lining can be subjected to during its industrial application. Thus, there are several methods available for testing thermal shock damage resistance of refractories.

The Effect of Deflocculants on the Structure and Physical-Mechanical Properties of Fireclay Refractory Castables

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2012
For production of fireclay refractory castables, various deflocculants are used. In recent years new polycarboxylate ethers-based deflocculants appeared and so far their properties comparing to those of common deflocculants are little investigated.

Mechanochemically synthesized high alumina cement and their implementation as low cement castables with some micro-fine additives

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies, 2015
High-energy ball milling viz. mechanochemical process is being utilized to mechanically activate ceramic powders for low temperature solid state reactions. The process can help to select low-cost commercially available oxides and can produce powders with

Analysis of a castable refractory using the wedge splitting test and cohesive zone model

open access: yesJournal of the European Ceramic Society, 2019
A cohesive zone approach is applied to the wedge splitting test (WST) using the finite element code Abaqus to obtain the tensile strength, the fracture energy and insight about the crack wake region.

Effect of Prewetting Cenospheres on Hydration Kinetics, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties of Refractory Castables

open access: yesCrystals
This study investigated the effect of non-prewetted and prewetted cenospheres (CSs) on the hydration course and physical and mechanical properties of refractory castable mixtures incorporated with nano silica (NS). The fixed amount of 0.1% of NS improves
