Oral Dosed Organo‐Silica Nanoparticles Restore Glucose Homeostasis and β‐Cell Function in Diabetes Rats

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An oral nanoplatform, MOP@T@D, which can maintain glucose homeostasis and restore islet β cells in diabetic rats is developed. It achieves efficient intestinal absorption and liver‐targeted delivery. The nanoparticle disintegrates only in response to hyperglycemia to release insulin on demand and provides antioxidant protection through selenoprotein ...

Using kaon regeneration to probe the quark mixing parameter cos(2 beta) in B --> psi K decays

open access: yes, 2000
We suggest a novel method to determine the sign of cos(2 beta) in the decays B --> psi K, by creating interference between KL and KS final states via ``regeneration,'' that is propagation through a matter target region to convert some KL to KS.

Endothelial Cells Angiogenesis in Sulfated Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) Hydrogels Enhanced by Bioactive Glass‐Released Ions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A mechanically tunable hydrogel composed of gelatin, chondroitin sulfate and laminin promotes angiogenesis in vitro without the supplement of growth factors. Endothelial cells morphogenesis was further enhanced by medium conditioned with bioactive glass 58S‐released ions (Ca and Si), thus offering a promising strategy to vascularize 3D tissue ...

Solar Heating Enhanced Selective Recovery of Metal Ions Through Flowing Electrodes Enabled by Hybrid Carbon Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A new electrochemical system based on a microporous hybrid of carbon nanoplatelets and nanotubes to selectively capture Ni2+ from wastewater is constructed. The system temperature rises rapidly when irradiated with sunlight, which enhances the Ni2+ removal rate by 250% and the selectivity by 53%, and the energy consumption is also reduced by 51 ...

Rationales for Place-based Approaches in Scotland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The aim of this paper is to remove the confusion surrounding what place-based approaches are, the rationales behind their use, the development of this approach to public service reform in Scotland and the future challenges presented by austerity and ...

Electrochemically Driven Dissipative Growth of Affinity Hydrogels for Bioresponsive Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Voltage pulses drive the growth and reinforcement of hydrogel films under dissipative conditions. This biocompatible strategy enables efficient integration of affinity ligands into the hydrogel matrix, enhancing the selective capture of growth factors and allowing precise temporal control over their release, making them well‐suited as adaptive ...

Optimization of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) shoot regeneration by synergistic use of adenine sulfate, glutamine and casein hydrolysate

open access: yesJournal of Agriculture and Food Research
Solanum lycopersicum is a widely cultivated crop, but its in vitro regeneration remains a challenging process. Although cytokinins and auxins are well known for their role in shoot regeneration, research is limited regarding the influence of other ...
