De tijd van regen, wind en kou is aangebroken en ik merk dat ik toch sneller binnen blijf. We kijken vaak naar de druppels die naar beneden glijden van het raam en dan roepen de dreumesen: ‘Bah, nat!’. Maar ze staren lange tijd naar het regenspektakel en vinden het toch maar wat interessant. En dat betekent voor mij: naar buiten, met of zonder regen.

This chapter examines the three missions sent from Ethiopia to Europe between the 1480s and 1520s against the backdrop of Ethiopian international, regional and court politics. It shows that Ethiopian diplomatic interests began to change in the early sixteenth century, shifting in a more martial direction.
