Smart Nanotechnologies for Multimodal Neuromodulation and Brain Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Recent advances in smart nanotechnologies are expanding the toolbox for brain interfacing, from wireless neuromodulation and high‐resolution sensing to targeted delivery within the central nervous system. By combining responsive nanomaterials with bioinspired design, these platforms enable multimodal interactions with neurons and glia, while also ...

Schooling Trajectories and the Development of Brain Dynamics: A Comparative Study of Montessori and Traditional Education

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We investigate whether Montessori and traditional schooling systems shape the developmental trajectory of large‐scale brain dynamics in different ways. We quantify the arrow of time (“non‐reversibility”) in neural activity during resting state and movie‐watching, revealing distinct maturational patterns.

Return to Spontaneous Circulation in a Patient With Cholinergic Syndrome at the Emergency Department of Buea Regional Hospital, Cameroon

open access: yesClinical Case Reports
With the increasing misuse of herbal treatment and pesticides, cases of cholinergic syndrome following herbal treatment or organophosphate poisoning have become increasingly common in our milieu. However, when advanced, mortality is high.

Rethinking anaesthesia strategies for patients with traumatic eye injuries: Alternatives to general anaesthesia

open access: yes, 2006
Regional anaesthesia has traditionally been considered to be contraindicated in patients with traumatic eye injuries, in part owing to the potential to extrude intraocular contents via force generated by local anaesthetics.

Transferable Deep Reinforcement Learning With Edge‐Contour‐Depth Fusion for Autonomous Wireless Capsule Endoscopy Navigation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents an anatomical landmark‐guided DRL framework for autonomous wireless capsule endoscopy navigation. Using a lightweight edge‐contour‐depth fusion module, it achieves over 97% coverage across diverse gastric anatomies. To ensure reliability, a two‐stage sim‐to‐real pipeline with an adaptive dynamic programming controller mitigates ...

Future directions in regional anaesthesia: not just for the cognoscenti

open access: yesAnaesthesia, 2019
Einstein is, of course, referring to a subconscious behavioural pattern that is currently afflicting many aspects of modern medicine: complexity bias. This is the belief that something is better if it is more complicated.

Hyperlipidemia Aggravates Alveolar Bone Loss via Periodontal Ligament Stem Cell Ferroptosis Through GSK3β Dependent Ubiquitin‐Mediated NRF2 Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid metabolic stress triggers ferroptosis in PDLSCs through the GSK3β/NRF2 pathway, thereby aggravating periodontal bone loss. Upregulated GSK3β promotes NRF2 ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation via β‐TrCP, suppressing NRF2 nuclear translocation and antioxidant target expression.

Dumbbell‐Structured Plasmonic‐Enhanced Optical Nanoprobes Boosting Photo‐Magnetic‐Acoustic Multimodal Imaging‐Guided Photodynamic‐Photothermal Synergistic Treatment and Immunogenic Death in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reports a novel rationally‐designed optical nanoprobe based on dumbbell‐shaped mesoporous silica‐coated gold nanorods, loaded with rare‐earth oxides, photosensitizers, and tumor‐targeted peptides, enabling plasmonic‐enhanced multimodal imaging and PTT‐PDT synergy.
