Effect of Time of Day on Sustained Postexercise Vasodilation Following Small Muscle-Mass Exercise in Humans

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
IntroductionPrevious studies observed diurnal variation in hemodynamic responses during recovery from whole-body exercise, with vasodilation appearing greater after evening versus morning sessions.

Modelling confounding effects from extracerebral contamination and systemic factors on functional near-infrared spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Haemodynamics-based neuroimaging is widely used to study brain function. Regional blood flow changes characteristic of neurovascular coupling provide an important marker of neuronal activation.

From Clinic to Computation: Multiscale Bioengineering Strategies for Durable Biological Aortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

Transplantation of progenitor cells and regeneration enhancement in acute myocardial infarction - (TOPCARE-AMI) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Background - Experimental studies suggest that transplantation of blood-derived or bone marrow–derived progenitor cells beneficially affects postinfarction remodeling.

Microfluidic Platform for Multiparametric Profiling of Fibrin Permeability, Fibrinolysis, and Cell Invasion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper introduces a single‐channel H‐junction microfluidic assay that profiles fibrin's evolving function in repair and thrombosis by measuring, in one ∼3 µL gel, permeability, fibrinolysis kinetics, fibroblast invasion, and clot extension in real time.

In silico modeling of oxygen-enhanced MRI of specific ventilation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Specific ventilation imaging (SVI) proposes that using oxygen-enhanced 1H MRI to capture signal change as subjects alternatively breathe room air and 100% O2 provides an estimate of specific ventilation distribution in the lung.

Ultrasmall Platinum Nanoparticles for Radiation‐Enhanced Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes a nanomedicine‐based strategy to enhance X‐ray radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Ultrasmall Pt‐NPs exhibit catalase‐like activity that may contribute to modulation of the tumor microenvironment and amplify interactions between radiation and biological matter, leading to increased DNA damage.
