A Regional Model of Climate Change and Human Migration

open access: yesInternational Journal of System Dynamics Applications, 2019
As climate change and human migration accelerate globally, decision-makers are seeking tools that can deepen their understanding of the complex nexus between climate change and human migration. These tools can help to identify populations under pressure to migrate, and to explore proactive policy options and adaptive measures.

Particulate Matter and Its Impact on Mortality among Elderly Residents of Seoul, South Korea

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
Climate change, air pollution, and the rapidly aging population are important public health challenges. An understanding of air pollution impacts is imperative for preventing air-pollution-related deaths and illnesses, particularly in vulnerable ...

A Statistical Model for Regional Tornado Climate Studies

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2015
Tornado reports are locally rare, often clustered, and of variable quality making it difficult to use them directly to describe regional tornado climatology. Here a statistical model is demonstrated that overcomes some of these difficulties and produces a smoothed regional-scale climatology of tornado occurrences.

An inter-comparison of regional climate models for Europe: model performance in present-day climate [PDF]

open access: yesClimatic Change, 2007
The analysis of possible regional climate changes over Europe as simulated by 10 regional climate models within the context of PRUDENCE requires a careful investigation of possible systematic biases in the models. The purpose of this paper is to identify how the main model systematic biases vary across the different models.

A multi-model assessment of regional climate disparities caused by solar geoengineering

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2014
Global-scale solar geoengineering is the deliberate modification of the climate system to offset some amount of anthropogenic climate change by reducing the amount of incident solar radiation at the surface.

Future Climate in the Tibetan Plateau from a Statistical Regional Climate Model [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Climate, 2013
Abstract The authors use a statistical regional climate model [Statistical Regional Model (STAR)] to project the Tibetan Plateau (TP) climate for the period 2015–50. Reanalysis datasets covering 1958–2001 are used as a substitute of observations and resampled by STAR to optimally fit prescribed linear temperature trends derived from the ...

Assessment of the marine heatwaves prediction performance of the short-term climate prediction system FIO-CPS v2.0

open access: yesWeather and Climate Extremes
In recent years, the frequent occurrence of marine heatwaves (MHWs) has affected the ecological environment and caused considerable socioeconomic impact. Consequently, MHWs prediction has received increasing attention.

Empirical Run‐Time Bias Correction for Antarctic Regional Climate Projections With a Stretched‐Grid AGCM

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, 2019
This work presents snapshot simulations of the late 20th and late 21st century Antarctic climate under the RCP8.5 scenario carried out with an empirically bias‐corrected global atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM), forced with bias‐corrected sea ...

A coupled regional climate-biosphere model for climate studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
This is the final report of a three-year, Laboratory-Directed Research and Development (LDRD) project at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The objective of this project has been to develop and test a regional climate modeling system that couples a limited-area atmospheric code to a biosphere scheme that properly represents surface processes ...

Unravelling the future role of internal variability in South Asian near-surface wind speed [PDF]

open access: yesEarth System Dynamics
Near-surface wind speed (NSWS) plays a critical role in water evaporation, air quality, and energy production. However, changes in NSWS over South Asia, a densely populated and climate-sensitive region, remain underexplored. This study aims to assess and
