Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Estimation of continuous-time interest rate models: a nonparametric approach [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents a general, nonlinear model for term structure interest rate. The approach is the same of Stanton (1997) but it has been extended to a multifactor model. The novel aspect is that rather than choosing the functional specification of the

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Tariff rate quotas: Does administration matter? [PDF]

open access: yes
At the Uruguay Round, tariff rate quotas (TRQs) were intended to serve two purposes: first, to prevent that tariffication would lead – at least on the short term – to a deterioration of market access and second, to create new, minimum market access.

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Time charter rate forecasting by Parsimonious Intelligent Support Vector regression Search Engine

open access: yesDigital Transportation and Safety
Reliable and accurate forecasts of time charter rates are crucial for shipowners navigating the highly volatile global shipping market. This paper introduces a novel framework, the Parsimonious Intelligent Support Vector Regression Search Engine (SVRIMSE)

Estimates on learning rates for multi-penalty distribution regression

open access: yesApplied and Computational Harmonic Analysis
This paper is concerned with functional learning by utilizing two-stage sampled distribution regression. We study a multi-penalty regularization algorithm for distribution regression under the framework of learning theory. The algorithm aims at regressing to real valued outputs from probability measures.

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Investigation of Swedish Krona exchange rate volatility using APARCH-Support Vector Regression

open access: yesFinancial Innovation
This paper investigates the daily exchange rate volatility of the Swedish krona (SEK) against the USD, EUR, GBP, and NOK over the period 2010–2023. Using asymmetric power ARCH (APARCH) models, the analysis uncovers significant differences in volatility ...
