Spinal Progenitor-Laden Bridges Support Earlier Axon Regeneration Following Spinal Cord Injury. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Impact statementSpinal cord injury (SCI) results in loss of tissue innervation below the injury. Spinal progenitors have a greater ability to repair the damage and can be injected into the injury, but their regenerative potential is hampered by their ...

Prolactin delays hair regrowth in mice [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Endocrinology, 2006
Mammalian hair growth is cyclic, with hair-producing follicles alternating between active (anagen) and quiescent (telogen) phases. The timing of hair cycles is advanced in prolactin receptor (PRLR) knockout mice, suggesting that prolactin has a role in regulating follicle cycling.

Efficient Self‐Cleaning and Anti‐Bacterial Behavior Realized by Hierarchical Structure in Hybrid Waterborne Polyurethane Coatings Containing Photocatalyst

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Hybrid WPU coatings with a hierarchical structure are constructed by first directional freezing polymerization of degradable hydrogels with a vertical channel structure and then filling these channels with aqueous WPU solution containing carbon nitride (g‐C3N4) nanosheets.

Tree growth and management in Ugandan agroforestry systems: effects of root pruning on tree growth and crop yield [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Tree root pruning is a potential tool for managing below-ground competition when trees and crops are grown together in agroforestry systems. This study investigates its effects on growth and root distribution of Alnus acuminata (HB & K), Casuarina ...

Regrowth of amorphous films [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vacuum Science and Technology, 1978
In this review, we emphasize three aspects of the regrowth of ion-implanted amorphous Si layers: (1) orientation dependence of the regrowth kinetics, (2) impurity effects on the regrowth kinetics, and (3) impurity distribution due to regrowth. To account for the orientation dependence there are at least three proposed models: (1) geometric model, (2 ...

Advances in Halide Perovskites for Photon Radiation Detectors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work highlights recent progress in perovskite‐based photon radiation detectors, covering organic–inorganic hybrid, inorganic, lead‐free double, and vacancy‐ordered halide perovskites. Their detection performance is compared, material‐specific advantages and challenges are examined, and provides insight into current limitations and future ...

Behaviour and effects of fluorine in annealed n+ polycrystalline silicon layers on silicon wafers

open access: yes, 2000
A comprehensive study is made of the behaviour and effects of fluorine in n+ polysilicon layers. Sheet resistance, TEM and SIMS are used to obtain quantitative data for the breakup of the interfacial oxide, the epitaxial regrowth of the polysilicon and ...

The effect of soil moisture content on leaf extension rate and yield of perennial ryegrass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
peer-reviewedThree experiments are described that were designed to evaluate the relationship between soil moisture and perennial ryegrass growth and leaf extension rate (LER) in loam or silt clay loam soil.

Engineering Osteoimmune Responses with Functionalized Orthopedic Implants for Post‐Operative Osteosarcoma Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor with limited treatment options and a terrible prognosis. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the recent development of osteoimmunomodulatory implants for post‐operative osteosarcoma treatment, of which the potential utility in evoking durable anti‐osteosarcoma immunity and accelerating bone
