Sum-of-Norms Regularized Nonnegative Matrix Factorization [PDF]

open access: yesNeural Computation
Abstract When applying nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF), the rank parameter is generally unknown. This rank, called the nonnegative rank, is usually estimated heuristically since computing its exact value is NP-hard. In this work, we propose an approximation method to estimate the rank on the fly while solving NMF.

In-situ holotomography to study longitudinal debonding in glass fibre-reinforced composites

open access: yese-Journal of Nondestructive Testing
The formation of fibre breaks governs the longitudinal tensile failure of a unidirectional ply. It is widely believed that matrix plasticity, matrix cracking, and fibre-matrix debonding created near these fibre breaks help reduce the resulting stress ...

Volume regularized non-negative matrix factorizations

open access: yes2018 9th Workshop on Hyperspectral Image and Signal Processing: Evolution in Remote Sensing (WHISPERS), 2018
This work considers two volume regularized non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) problems that decompose a nonnegative matrix X into the product of two nonnegative matrices W and H with a regularization on the volume of the convex hull spanned by the columns of W.

Balanced generalized weighing matrices and their applications

open access: yesLe Matematiche, 2004
Balanced generalized weighing matrices include well-known classical combinatorial objects such as Hadamard matrices and conference matrices; moreover, particular classes of BGW -matrices are equivalent to certain relative difference sets.

Uniform Workload Distribution Problems

open access: yesCommunications, 2016
In this paper we review common studies from the years 1984-2015 of problems occurring in uniform scheduling of workload distributions. These problems were formulated first by Pesko in dealing with the practical problem of regular scheduling of service ...

Analogues of some fundamental theorems of summability theory

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2000
In 1911, Steinhaus presented the following theorem: if A is a regular matrix then there exists a sequence of 0's and 1's which is not A-summable. In 1943, R. C.

Copper Lacus Sequence Spaces Associated With Operator Ideals and Their Geometric Properties

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics
In this research, we introduce the regular Copper Lucas matrix operator, which is based on the Copper Lucas sequence. We investigate the sequence spaces c0Γ and cΓ, as well as lpΓ for 1≤p≤∞, all of which are linked to the newly defined regular Copper ...

On comparison between the distance energies of a connected graph

open access: yesHeliyon
Let G be a simple connected graph of order n having Wiener index W(G). The distance, distance Laplacian and the distance signless Laplacian energies of G are respectively defined asDE(G)=∑i=1n|υiD|,DLE(G)=∑i=1n|υiL−Tr‾|andDSLE(G)=∑i=1n|υiQ−Tr‾|, where ...
