Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Performance of a two-body wave energy converter with an annular heave plate

open access: yesFlow
We theoretically examine the performance of a two-body wave energy converter (WEC) featuring a floating sphere and a submerged annular heave plate, connected by a power take-off (PTO) system. Utilising linear wave theory, we derive the system’s frequency-

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Counting and Averaging Problems in Graph Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Paul Gunther (1966), proved the following result: Given a continuous function f on a compact surface M of constant curvature -1 and its periodic lift g to the universal covering, the hyperbolic plane, then the averages of the lift g over increasing ...

An Optimal Transport Approach to Robust Reconstruction and Simplification of 2D Shapes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present a robust 2D shape reconstruction and simplification algorithm which takes as input a defect-laden point set with noise and outliers. We introduce an optimal-transport driven approach where the input point set, considered as a sum of Dirac ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Double pyramidal central configurations of Newtonian (N+2)-body problem

open access: yesResults in Physics
For double pyramidal central configurations of the Newtonian (N+2)-body problem where N point particles are positioned at the vertices of a regular N-polygon, and the (N+1)-th and (N+2)-th point-particles are positioned the opposite sides of the plane ...

Computation of highly regular nearby points [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings Third Israel Symposium on the Theory of Computing and Systems, 2002
We call a vector x/spl isin/R/sup n/ highly regular if it satisfies =0 for some short, non-zero integer vector m where is the inner product. We present an algorithm which given x/spl isin/R/sup n/ and /spl alpha//spl isin/N finds a highly regular nearby point x' and a short integer relation m for x'.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Analytic solutions of n-th order differential equations at a singular point

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2002
Necessary and sufficient conditions are be given for the existence of analytic solutions of the nonhomogeneous n-th order differential equation at a singular point. Let $L$ be a linear differential operator with coefficients analytic at zero.
