Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

On the regularity of boundary points in potential theory [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1952
A unique harmonic function u may be constructed from the given boundary values by any of several methods, for example, by exhausting G with a sequence of domains for which the Dirichlet problem is solvable [3],1 by using subharmonic functions [4], or by the Dirichlet principle [1; 5]. There then arises the question of whether the relation (1) holds for

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Fixed points of asymptotically regular nonexpansive mappings on nonconvex sets

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2003
It is shown that if X is a Banach space and C is a union of finitely many nonempty, pairwise disjoint, closed, and connected subsets {Ci:1≤i≤n } of X, and each Ci has the fixed-point property (FPP) for asymptotically regular nonexpansive mappings, then ...

On the structure of regular infinitely divisible point processes

open access: yes, 1977
A representation for the probability generating functional (p.g.fl.) of a regular infinitely divisible (i.d.) stochastic point process, motivated as a generalization of the Gauss-Poisson process, is presented.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Generalized quadrangles with a regular point and association schemes

open access: yes, 1995
There is a new method of constructing generalized quadrangles (GQs) which is based on covering of nets; all GQs with a regular point can be represented in this way. Here we first construct from a generalized quadrangle Q with a regular point a four-class

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an
