Gaussian Tests of "Extremal White Noise" for Dependent, Heterogeneous, Heavy Tailed Strochastic Processes with an Application [PDF]
We develop a non-parametric test of tail-specific extremal serial dependence for possibly heavy-tailed time series. The test statistic is asymptotically chi-squared under a null of "extremal white noise", as long as extremes of the time series are Near ...

Beyond Lebesgue and Baire: generic regular variation [PDF]
We show that the No Trumps combinatorial property (NT), introduced for the study of the foundations of regular variation in LSE-CDAM-2006-22, permits a natural extension of the definition of the class of functions of regular variation, including the ...

Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Acute effects of electronic cigarette smoking on heart rate variability
Heart rate variability (HRV) refers to a temporal variation between consecutive heart beats and is considered a measure of the balance between the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous system.

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Kernel Methods for Small Sample and Asymptotic Tail Inference for Dependent, Heterogeneous Data [PDF]
This paper considers tail shape inference techniques robust to substantial degrees of serial dependence and heterogeneity. We detail a new kernel estimator of the asymptotic variance and the exact small sample mean-squared-error, and a simple ...

Regularized Stein Variational Gradient Flow
Abstract The stein variational gradient descent (SVGD) algorithm is a deterministic particle method for sampling. However, a mean-field analysis reveals that the gradient flow corresponding to the SVGD algorithm (i.e., the Stein Variational Gradient Flow) only provides a constant-order approximation to the Wasserstein gradient flow ...

EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Von mises-type conditions in second order regular variation [PDF]
We give a thorough treatment concerning sufficient conditions involving derivatives for extended regular variation of second order. Most of the results are new.

Boundary blow-up solutions to semilinear elliptic equations with nonlinear gradient terms
In this article we study the blow-up rate of solutions near the boundary for the semilinear elliptic problem $$\displaylines{ \Delta u\pm |\nabla u|^q=b(x)f(u), \quad x\in\Omega,\cr u(x)=\infty, \quad x\in\partial\Omega, }$$ where $\Omega$ is a ...
