Numerical study of wave run-up on a fixed and vertical surface-piercing cylinder subjected to regular, non-breaking waves using OpenFOAM

Applied Ocean Research, 2018
In wave-structure interaction, wave run-up is an important phenomenon that needs to be considered in the design of offshore structures. A thorough understanding of the physics of the nonlinear flow phenomena is necessary for the better insight into the ...

On the Regularity Properties of the Wave Equation

1994
The research we want to report about has been motivated by the study of the regularity properties of solutions to the equations of “wave maps3 ” defined from the Minkowski space-time M n+1 to a Riemannian manifold N. Our interest in these equations is due to the fact that they are the simplest system of wave equations, derived from a relativistic ...

Numerical simulation of regular waves: Optimization of a numerical wave tank

Ocean Engineering, 2018
With the growth registered in computational power, numerical models applied to fluid flows is an increasingly important tool for oceanic and coastal engineering, and can be used in studies including energy converters.

Generation of regular and focused waves by using an internal wave maker in a CIP-based model

Ocean Engineering, 2018
In this study, further development of an in-house code, named a constraint interpolation profile (CIP)-based model is presented. A momentum source function is introduced as an internal wave maker to generate regular and focused waves accurately without ...

Regular wave conditions in a directional wave basin

2010
This thesis represents a small step toward improved generation of realistic sea states in laboratory wave basins. Experiments were conducted in an offshore directional wave basin equipped with a segmented wave generator. Regular waves were generated for several periods and propagation directions, and the resulting wave elevations were measured ...

On the regular wave kinematics

1998
The present paper investigates some models able to fit a regular wave field, acting a distinction among theoretical methods, derived from Stokes theory, and engineering approximations. The validity of the different methods was tested by using experimental results.

Estimation of incident and reflected waves in regular wave experiments

Ocean Engineering, 1995
Abstract This paper presents a laboratory technique for measurement of reflected waves by a submerged horizontal plate. A simple method is proposed to decompose the composite wave record obtained from the wave reflection experiments in the wave flume.

Wave Load Acting on Advanced Spar in Regular Waves

Volume 6: Ocean Space Utilization, 2018
Offshore wind turbines have been investigated and developed as one of the renewable energies. In Japan, the research and development of floating type offshore wind turbines have been carried out because the water around the country is too deep to settle the bottom mounted type. In this paper, we investigate the effects of the diameter of

On regular reflection of detonation waves

Fluid Dynamics, 1983
The boundaries of regular reflection of detonation waves by a rigid wall are calculated. It is assumed that detonation is initiated at the point of reflection when a shock wave is incident on the wall at a finite angle in a gas fuel mixture, the detonation propagating instantaneously along the reflected front.
