Using a pattern-based homogenization scheme for modeling the linear viscoelasticity of nano-reinforced polymers with an interphase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The self-consistent model based on morphological representative patterns is applied to the realistic case of the linear viscoelasticity of polymers reinforced by elastic nano-particles coated with a viscoelastic interphase.

Experimental Investigation of Rotational Behavior of Glulam Column-Beam Connection Reinforced with Carbon, Glass, Basalt and Aramid FRP Fabric

open access: yesDrvna Industrija
In the domain of modern timber structural systems, timber frame constructions distinguish themselves as preferred and commonly used building methods. Their appeal arises from their architectural adaptability and their distinctive attributes, which enable

Improvement of the mathematical model of the diagram of deformation of the compressed composite steel and concrete structures

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
The mathematical model of the stress-strain ratio of compressed concrete at elevated temperatures for composite structures described in Eurocode EN 1994-1-2:2005 Eurocode 4 divided in two stages: Stage 1 - represents the ascending branch and is defined ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Behaviour of GFRP rebars reinforced concrete elements under elevated temperature and fire [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
PhDIn general, it is expected that concrete structures using Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) rebars as reinforcement could have improved durability compared to normal steel reinforcement because of the corrosion resistance of the rebar. However,

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Crack Width and Load-Carrying Capacity of RC Elements Strengthened with FRP

open access: yesInternational Journal of Polymer Science, 2018
The present study focuses on a prediction of crack width and load-carrying capacity of flexural reinforced concrete (RC) elements strengthened with fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcements.
