Experimental and computational studies on the effectiveness of strengthening the concrete floor slabs of a hydroelectric power plant's powerhouse through the use of an external reinforcement system involving carbon tape application. Part I [PDF]

open access: yesНанотехнологии в строительстве
Introduction. In accordance with the Federal Law of the Russian Federation ”On the Safety of Hydraulic Structures“, it is necessary to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of operating structures at hydroelectric power plants (HPPs).

Out-of-Plane Bending and Shear Behaviors of Steel Plate-Concrete Walls for Nuclear Power Plants

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
The steel plate-concrete structure, with its advantages of modular construction, good seismic capacity, and strong impact resistance, has been gradually replacing the reinforced concrete structure in the containment vessel and internal workshop structure

Systematic Exploration of 3D Concrete Printing Parameters for Conformal Printing on Sloped Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A conformal slicing algorithm is developed for robotic 3D concrete printing (3DCP) on sloped surfaces as a first step toward printing slab‐on‐grade foundations on uneven terrain. Systematic experiments quantify the effects of nozzle speed, extrusion rate, and toolpath direction on filament dimension and stability.

Stress-strain behaviour of pre-stressed slabs of off-shuttering formation reinforced by carbon fiber

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
The paper presents calculations result of an assembled reinforced concrete hollow core slab of off-shuttering formation which has been reinforced with pre-stressed wire in its top and bottom areas reinforced with carbon fiber, in their turn. The research

Post-Earthquake Fire Punching Shear Behavior of GFRP-Reinforced Slab-Column Connections

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2023
It is not uncommon for reinforced concrete slab-column assembly to experience a punching brittle shear failure type under seismic loading. This research work numerically investigates the punching shear behavior of interior GFRP-reinforcedslab-column ...

Multiferroic‐Centric Materials and Systems Engineering for Battery Applications: An Insight Into Mechanisms, Strategies, and Characterizations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multiferroic order parameters – polarization, magnetization, and ferroelastic strain – are positioned as dynamic design variables for batteries. Their mechanistic roles, practical tuning through fabrication and external fields, and ferroic‐resolved characterization routes are unified into a closed‐loop framework, revealing how coupled ferroic responses

A Phosphorylation‐Induced Micellization Switch in the Low‐Complexity Domain of TDP‐43

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phosphorylation of TAR DNA‐binding protein's 43 kDa (TDP‐43) low‐complexity domain by casein kinase 1 delta (CK1δ) acts as a molecular switch, redirecting its self‐assembly from macroscopic phase separation toward finite‐sized, spherical block‐copolymer micelles of ∼30 nm.

Construction of Buildings and Structures on Rock Concrete Compensation Slabs when Building in Subsided Areas of Abandoned Coal Mines and Open Pits [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2020
For building in subsided areas of abandoned coal mines and open pits on soils damaged by anthropogenic impact and mining operations, it is proposed to base buildings and structures on a three-layer slab founda- tion including: a solid reinforced concrete

Breaking point: Identifying the factors that predict suspension from school

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract School suspensions are associated with adverse educational and psychosocial outcomes, yet little is known about how structural disadvantage, relational factors, health behaviours, well‐being indicators and school‐level factors jointly predict suspension risk in England.
