ABSTRACT Additive Manufacturing (AM) has been identified as a potential catalyst for a paradigm shift within the construction industry, due to its capacity to enhance sustainability, reduce waste, and augment design flexibility. This study presents a systematic literature review (SLR) that explores the application of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in ...

Reinforced composite masonry shear walls
The results of testing six brick-to-block reinforced composite masonry panels subjected to gravity and in-plane shear loads are dis cussed herein. Each wall contained two wythes with a nominal 2-inch collar joint. In the first 5 walls, this joint was grouted and rein forced with either welded wire fabric or vertical and horizontal bars.

Abstract In practice, reinforced concrete (RC) wall‐like columns often have openings to facilitate building services, which creates stress concentrations around the opening, resulting in the weakening of their load‐carrying capacity. This study proposes innovative strengthening methods using near‐surface mounted (NSM) incorporating steel materials to ...

Abstract This study evaluates the seismic performance of elevated reinforced concrete (RC) water tanks in the Elbistan region following the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaras–Elbistan earthquakes. Field investigations, visual damage surveys, non‐destructive testing (ultrasonic pulse velocity—UPV), concrete compressive strength measurements, peak ground ...

Seismic Performance of Masonry Walls Built with New Type of Fired Shale Hollow Blocks
This paper presents the cyclic loading test results of a new type of fired shale hollow block masonry walls. Six specimens were designed including two specimens without reinforcements (bare walls) and four specimens constrained by structural columns ...

Between the Indian Ocean and the Gulf: Ceramics From Ḥattā Oasis in the Emirate of Dubai
ABSTRACT This study presents the ceramic finds from archaeological investigations conducted in 2024 at two settlements: ‘Islamic Village' and Suhaila 2, one of a number of mountain villages of the Late Islamic period within the Ḥattā Oasis: a high‐altitude exclave in the Emirate of Dubai. The sites are located on the northeastern slopes of Jabal Qallāt

Development of Quakeproof Reinforcement Methods for Masonry Walls
Railway lines in Japan are sometimes fl anked by earthretaining structures consisting of piled-up stones, known as masonry walls (see Fig. 1). Although railway operators are aware that these walls can collapse and damage trains in the event of an earthquake, the behavior of such structures when subjected to seismic motion has not yet been clarifi ed ...

A Splitting Architecture for Exact Reduced Coulomb Friction
Abstract Existing approaches to frictional contact dynamics typically either modify the Coulomb law to improve numerical robustness or solve the exact law in a fully coupled monolithic form. However, in its reduced form, exact Coulomb friction can be written as a cone complementarity problem with an augmented velocity, which reveals a natural split ...
