A method is proposed for smoothing approximate fields of stress-resultants in patches of finite elements. The method is based on combining Trefftz fields of stress-resultants in a p-version so as to obtain a closest fit using the strain energy norm as a

Curved Three‐Director Cosserat Shells with Strong Coupling
Abstract Continuum‐based shell models are an established approach for the simulation of thin deformables in computer graphics. However, existing research in physically‐based animation is mostly focused on shear‐rigid Kirchhoff‐Love shells. In this work we explore three‐director Cosserat (micropolar) shells which introduce additional rotational degrees ...

Mother Operators and their Descendants
A mechanism deriving new well-posed evolutionary equations from given ones is inspected. It turns out that there is one particular spatial operator from which many of the standard evolutionary problems of mathematical physics can be generated by this ...

Hybrid equilibrium plate elements of high degree
This paper concerns the modelling of plate bending problems governed by Reissner-Mindlin theory when hybrid equilibrium elements of high polynomial degree are used.

This paper is concerned with the bending of laminated composite plates with arbitrary lay-up and general boundary conditions. The analysis is based on the small deflection, first-order shear deformation theory of composite plates, which utilizes the ...

A locking-free quadratic nurbs-based isogeometric formulation for plates analysis
A new Reissner-Mindlin plate formulation based on a quadratic NURBS-based isogeometric is presented. In order to avoid the transverse shear locking and to improve the accuracy of the present formulation, the quadratic NURBS-based isogeometric is ...

Decay energy for Reissner-Mindlin-Timoshenko system with delays terms
This article explores the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the Reissner-Mindlin-Timoshenko system, incorporating frictional dissipation and delay terms in the rotation angles. Using semigroup theory, we first establish the well-posedness of the system.

A projection‐based quaternion discretization of the geometrically exact beam model
Abstract In the present work the geometrically exact beam model is formulated in terms of unit quaternions. A projection‐based discretization approach is proposed which is based on a normalization of the quaternion approximation. The discretization relies on NURBS shape functions and, alternatively, on Lagrangian interpolation.

Assessment of Theories for Free Vibration Analysis of Homogeneous and Multilayered Plates
This paper assesses classical and advanced theories for free vibrational response of homogeneous and multilayered simply supported plates. Closed form solutions are given for thick and thin geometries.
