Triangular elements for Reissner-Mindlin plate

Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1997
A general method to construct locking free. Reissner-Mindlin plate elements is presented. According to this method the shear strain is replaced by its proper interpolation polynomial, which corresponds to the Kirchhoff conditions at the interpolation points as the thickness of plate tends to zero, so the element is locking free.

Adaptive Mixed Finite Element Method for Reissner‐Mindlin Plates

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 2000
AbstractWe use a modified mixed finite element method for the Reissner‐Mindlin plate model to study its numerical properties in practical use. We derive an a posteriori error estimate to control adaptive mesh‐refining algorithms and study the question of reliability. Numerical examples prove the new scheme efficient.

Polygonal topology optimization for Reissner–Mindlin plates

Engineering with Computers, 2020
Polygonal finite elements have recently been widely implemented in topology optimization problems due to their great advantages such as highly accurate solutions and flexibility in mesh generation of arbitrary-shaped design domains. In this study, a polygonal topology optimization for Reissner–Mindlin (R–M) plate with minimizing the compliance under a ...

Virtual Elements for the Reissner‐Mindlin plate problem

Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations, 2018
In this work, we present a virtual element method for the approximation of the plate bending problem in the Reissner‐Mindlin formulation. The proposed method follows the MITC approach of the FEM context. We construct a family of VEM spaces with arbitrary degree of accuracy that satisfies the conditions of the MITC philosophy.

Implicit Boundary Approach for Reissner-Mindlin Plates

Volume 2A: 33rd Computers and Information in Engineering Conference, 2013
Implicit boundary method enables the use of background mesh to perform finite element analysis while using solid models to represent the geometry. This approach has been used in the past to model 2D and 3D structures. Thin plate or shell-like structures are more challenging to model.

Lamination parameters for Reissner-Mindlin plates

AIAA Journal, 1994
The purpose is to derive lamination parameters for kinematically nonlinear small strain, medium rotation shear deformable Reissner-Mindlin type plate. The author uses the Reissner-Mindlin governing equations as well as the Tsai and Pagano lamination parameters.
