A refined 5‐node plate bending element based on Reissner–Mindlin theory

Communications in Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2006
AbstractIn this study, a simple approach was proposed to develop a new 5‐node plate bending element, named DRMP. This element formulation is based on the Reissner–Mindlin plate theory and can be used for the analysis of both thin and thick plate. The new element formulation was then coded into FEAP to develop 15‐DOF DRMP element for the finite element ...

Hybrid Transformation to a Generalized Reissner–Mindlin Theory for Composite Plates

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2015
An asymptotic theory of composite plates is constructed using the variational asymptotic method. To maximize simplicity and promote efficiency of the developed model, a transformation procedure is required to establish a mathematical link between an asymptotically correct energy functional derived herein and a simpler engineering model, such as a ...

Actuator/sensor modeling for vibration of FGM solid circular plate using Reissner‐Mindlin plate theory

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 2010
AbstractIn this paper, the vibration of a constant thickness circular plate made of functionally graded material (FGM) is controlled by implementing two piezoelectric layers as a sensor and an actuator. Assuming that the material properties of FGM plate vary only in the thickness direction according to the power law manner, the governing differential ...

On the micromechanics theory of Reissner-Mindlin plates

Acta Mechanica, 2000
A micromechanics model is developed for Reissner-Mindlin plates based on a generalized eigenstrain formulation. In this framework, the author obtains an analytical solution for elliptical inclusion embedded in an infinite thick plate. In particular, the first-order asymptotic solution of the elliptical inclusion problem is obtained in explicit form. As

An Improved Reissner-Mindlin Plate Theory for Composite Laminates

Aerospace, 2004
An improved Reissner-Mindlin theory for composite laminates without invoking ad hoc kinematic assumptions is constructed using the variational-asymptotic method. Instead of assuming a priori the distribution of three-dimensional displacements in terms of two-dimensional plate displacements as what is usually done in typical plate theories, an exact ...

A Reissner-Mindlin-type plate theory including the direct piezoelectric and the pyroelectric effect

Acta Mechanica, 2000
This paper is concerned with flexural vibrations of composite plates, where piezoelastic layers are used to generate distributed actuation or to perform distributed sensing of strains in the plate. Special emphasis is given to the coupling between mechanical, electrical and thermal fields due to the direct piezoelectric effect and pyroelectric effect ...

Thick/Thin Plates. Reissner-Mindlin Theory

2013
Kirchhoff plate elements studied in the previous chapter are restricted to thin plate situations only (thickness/average side ≤ 0.10). Also the C 1 continuity requirement for Kirchhoff elements poses severe difficulties for deriving a conforming deflection field.

The development of DKMQ plate bending element for thick to thin shell analysis based on the Naghdi/Reissner/Mindlin shell theory

Finite Elements in Analysis and Design, 2015
This paper presents a new simple four-node quadrilateral shell element with 24-dof which can be used to analyze thick and thin shell problems. This element which is developed from DKMQ plate element using the Naghdi/Mindlin/Reissner shell theory can take into account warping effects and coupling bending-membrane energy.
