Elastic properties of highly anisotropic thin poly(propylene) foams

open access: yes, 2004
In this letter, elastic properties of highly anisotropic cellular poly(propylene) films are reported. The material shows peculiar elastic properties compared to other foams in the literature. The data is displayed as the relative Young's modulus $E^*/E_s$

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Ordinary and Encased Stone Columns with Two Different Relative Densities [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2013
Stone columns technique is most commonly used in increasing bearing capacity, reduces and controls the compressibility and accelerates the rate of consolidation of soft saturated clay.

Back-in-time dynamics of the cluster IE 0657-56 (the Bullet System)

open access: yes, 2007
We present a simplified dynamical model of the ``Bullet'' system of two colliding clusters. The model constrains the masses of the system by requiring that the orbits of the main and sub components satisfy the cosmological initial conditions of vanishing

Transport of apolipoproteins A-I and A-II by human thoracic duct lymph [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The daily transport of human plasma apolipoproteins A-I and A-II, triglyceride, and total cholesterol from the thoracic duct lymph into plasma was measured in 2 subjects before and 3 subjects after renal transplantation. Lymph triglyceride transport was ~

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Influence of Process Energy on the Formation of Imperfections in Body-Centered Cubic Cells with Struts in the Vertical Orientation Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion from the Magnesium Alloy WE43

open access: yesMicromachines
The low specific density and good strength-to-weight ratio make magnesium alloys a promising material for lightweight applications. The combination of the properties of magnesium alloys and Additive Manufacturing by the Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF ...

Multistream Classification with Relative Density Ratio Estimation

open access: yesAAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2019
In supervised learning, availability of sufficient labeled data is of prime importance. Unfortunately, they are sparingly available in many real-world applications.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Microstructure and Mechanical Property of Compact Graphite/6061Al Composite Prepared by Ultra-High Pressure Sintering

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Graphite/6061 aluminum (G/6061Al) composites with different content of graphite were ultra-high pressure (UHP)-sintered and hot pressing (HP)-sintered, respectively. The result shows that homogeneous dispersion of graphite flakes in the 6061Al matrix can
