Fiber Content and Relative Feed Value Estimation of Gamma Irradiated Rice Straw

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2019
Abstract Ionizing irradiation is an alternative treatment to reduce the cell wall constituents and improve the nutritional value of substrates. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the fiber content and relative feed value of rice straw after gamma irradiation treatment. Rice straw was obtained from Sidenuk rice variety.

How phagocytic cells kill bacteria: Lessons from a professional killer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
How phagocytic cells ingest and kill bacteria has been studied for more than a century, but many questions remain unanswered. The study of the amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum brings new answers, and new questions. Professional phagocytic cells such as neutrophils and macrophages, as well as free‐living soil amoebae like Dictyostelium discoideum, employ

Some Quality Traits of Different Wild Plants

open access: yesNotulae Scientia Biologicae, 2010
This research was carried out to determine quality properties of some pasture plant species. In this research, 10 different pasture plant species were used as materials which were collected from Diyarbakir pasture areas of Turkey. At the end of research,

Yeast Gcn2 retains activity following humanization of its auto‐phosphorylation region

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model to study Gcn2 activation and regulation is limited by the lack of antibodies detecting phosphorylated Gcn2. To overcome this, we engineered Gcn2‐HsC, a yeast Gcn2 variant recognizable by commercial anti‐human phospho‐GCN2 antibodies.

Evaluating the effect of γ‐oryzanol on MASLD pathology using a medaka fish model

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores a liver disease called MASLD, which is increasing worldwide and can lead to serious damage. Researchers used medaka fish instead of rodents to test a food compound, γ‐oryzanol. Fish fed this compound had less liver fat and healthier gut bacteria.

Effect of enzyme bacteria compound treatment on fermentation quality of straw feed

open access: yesSiliao yanjiu, 2022
The experiment was to study the effect of enzyme bacteria compound treatment on the change of straw quality. Four kinds of coarse fodder in Ningxia were fermented in silage bags by cellulase+compound probiotics (enzyme bacteria compound treatment for ...

De novo synthesis of short‐chain aldehydes and hydrocarbons secreted by the brown marmorated stink bug Halyomorpha halys

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys, mainly secretes 4‐oxo‐(E)‐2‐hexenal, (E)‐2‐decenal, dodecane and tridecane, a mixture representative of that released by many heteropterans. We demonstrated that H. halys can synthesise these secretory components de novo using dietary glucose.

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

Avidin is evolutionarily conserved in fish but dispensable for development and resistance against Streptococcus agalactiae in zebrafish

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...

32 Determining the feeding value of corn gluten feed relative to corn when supplemented to beef calves grazed on stockpiled tall fescue pastures

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science, 2020
Abstract This experiment compared the performance response of supplementing corn gluten feed (CGF) or corn to calves grazing stockpiled tall fescue pastures over a 70-d period. Forty-four Angus x Simmental calves (238 ± 4 kg) were stratified across 6 treatments by BW and sex in a 2 x 3 factorial arrangement.
