Effect of Linewidth on the Relative Intensity Noise in Random Distributed Feedback Raman Fiber Lasers [PDF]

open access: yesSensors, 2022
We experimentally explore the relation between spectral linewidth and RIN transfer in half-open cavity random distributed feedback Raman lasers, demonstrating for the first time the possibility of adjusting the pump-to-signal RIN transfer intensity and ...

Relative-Intensity-Noise Coupling in Heterodyne Interferometers [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Applied, 2022
Laser interferometers are the core measurement tool in gravitational wave observatories. An important factor that can limit the performance is the relative power instability of the laser, a problem often called relative intensity noise (RIN). But exactly how this influences the interferometer performance is not completely understood.

Relative Intensity Noise of Silicon Hybrid Laser [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 2014
We theoretically investigate the relative intensity noise (RIN) of a silicon hybrid laser by taking into account two-dimension transverse modes in the hybrid waveguide. It shows that, when only one transverse mode is excited, RIN spectrum of the hybrid laser exhibits a larger peak value at a lower relaxation oscillation (RO) frequency as compared with ...

Relative Intensity Noise of Gain-Switched Dual-State Lasing for an Insein(113)B Quantum Dot Laser [PDF]

open access: yesNanomaterials
The RIN of an InAs/InP(113)B quantum-dot laser for direct- and cascade-relaxation models is investigated under the gain-switching condition via the application of an optical Gaussian pulse to an excited state.

Relative intensity noise in a multi-Stokes Brillouin laser [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Express, 2018
We investigate the Relative Intensity Noise (RIN) properties of a multi-Stokes Brillouin fiber ring laser. We experimentally analyse intensity noise of each Stokes waves and study the noise dynamics of the cascaded Brillouin scattering process. We observe up to 20 dB/Hz intensity noise reduction compared to that of the RIN input pump laser.

Simultaneous Suppression of Thermal Phase Noise and Relative Intensity Noise in a Fiber Optic Gyroscope [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Sensors Journal, 2022
The short-term sensitivity of a several-kilometers long fiber-optic gyroscope is limited mainly by thermal phase noise and relative intensity noise. Increasing the phase modulation frequency decreases the thermal phase noise but not the relative intensity noise since it behaves as white noise.

Suppression of Relative Intensity Noise in Fiber-Optic Raman Polarizers [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2011
We propose a method for the suppression of relative intensity noise (RIN) at the output of a Raman polarizer, a special type of Raman amplifier that transforms an input weak beam of unpolarized light into an highly polarized amplified beam towards its output.

Relative intensity noise of multiwavelength fibre laser [PDF]

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2004
Relative intensity noise of a six-channel multiwavelength distributed Fabry-Perot fibre laser is compared to the noise of a singlemode distributed feedback fibre laser. The noise characteristics of individual channels are similar to that of the singlemode laser, offering a low-cost and compact solution for wavelength multiplexing applications without ...

The relative intensity noise of a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser with a fiber Bragg grating external cavity [PDF]

open access: yesНаучно-технический вестник информационных технологий, механики и оптики, 2021
The research deals with the topical problem of stabilizing the optical parameters of a single-mode vertical-cavity surfaceemitting laser. A solution to the problem is proposed by forming an external cavity based on a Bragg grating induced into an optical
