Sensitivity to Relative and Absolute Motion

Perception, 1992
The threshold of sensitivity to movement could be governed by mechanisms that are sensitive either to change in spatial position, or directly to the movement itself. The use of spatially complex patterns (random-dot patterns) has been suggested to eliminate the former strategy allowing examination of the movement detecting mechanisms in isolation.

The Relative Sensitivity of the Kidney to Irradiation

Radiology, 1927
THE successful application of radiotherapy is due in large measure to the broad foundation laid in the exhaustive study of the immediate metabolic reaction and the tissue changes produced in man and the experimental animal. The literature on the immediate response of the body as regards metabolism, normal tissue and tumors is abundant, but that ...

Sensitive Method for Measuring the Relative Abrasiveness of Dentifrices

Journal of Dental Research, 1968
A procedure involving the use of a tritiumlabeled acrylic strip was developed for the rapid, accurate, and reproducible evaluation of the abrasiveness of dentifrices. Comparisons were made of dentifrices widely sold in the United Kingdom (including some marketed specifically for denture cleaning) and a standard paste.

The relative sensitivities of autoradiographic emulsions to negative chemography

Journal of Microscopy, 1988
SUMMARYNuclear emulsions from Ilford, Kodak (U.K.), Eastman Kodak and Sakura have been exposed under comparable conditions to sections known to cause negative chemography. Kodak AR‐10 and Eastman Kodak NTB‐2 and NTB‐3 emulsions did not show negative chemography. Ilford K5, K2 and L4 and Sakura NR‐M2 showed varying degrees of chemography.

Relative spectral sensitivity distribution measurements of photoreceivers

Applied Optics, 1977
Problems related to the measurement of spectral sensitivity distribution are discussed. Special systems, an electromechanical one with servo-control and an all-electronic one using an instantaneous value measuring ratiometer, have been built and their performance tested.

The relative sensitivity of different alignment methods and character codings in sensitivity analysis

Cladistics, 2008
AbstractSensitivity analysis provides a way to measure robustness of clades in sequence‐based phylogenetic analyses to variation in alignment parameters rather than measuring their branch support. We compared three different approaches to multiple sequence alignment in the context of sensitivity analysis: progressive pairwise alignment, as implemented ...

Sensitivity, Specificity, and Relatives

2011
This chapter introduces several notions fundamental for disease or device testing. The sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of a test are measures of the performance of a diagnostic test and are intimately connected with probability calculations (estimations) and Bayes’ rule.

Measurement of Relative Spectral Sensitivity Distributions of Photoelectric Receivers

Applied Optics, 1971
An apparatus is described for the fully automatic measurement of the relative spectral sensitivity distributions of photoelectric receivers. A substitution method is used in which, after calibration of an auxiliary photomultiplier against a reference thermopile, the sample receiver is mounted in the position formerly occupied by the thermopile ...

On the Relative Virulence of Sensitized and Non-Sensitized Typhoid Bacilli

Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1915
In 1910 Garbat and Meyer1 published the results of an experimental study of a typhoid immune serum produced in rabbits by repeated injections of typhoid bacilli. These investigators found that rabbits, injected intravenously with killed sensitized typhoid bacilli, developed a serum of higher protective power than the rabbits injected with killed, non ...
