Global Effects of Chorus and Hiss Waves on Trapped Energetic Electrons at Jupiter
Abstract Unlike Earth, where whistler‐mode chorus is generally observed outside the plasmasphere and hiss is predominantly confined within it, Jupiter's magnetosphere frequently hosts both wave modes simultaneously. Using Juno observations, we present a global survey of whistler‐mode waves at Jupiter, demonstrating that both chorus and hiss are ...

Steady relativistic fluid jets [PDF]
A numerical simulation is presented of a relativistic jet. Owing to the similar mathematical form of the equations of steady relativistic gas dynamics and steady non-relativistic gas dynamics, the numerical method used to make this calculation can be used to model either type of jet flow.

DECELERATING RELATIVISTIC TWO-COMPONENT JETS [PDF]
Transverse stratification is a common intrinsic feature of astrophysical jets. There is growing evidence that jets in radio galaxies consist of a fast low density outflow at the jet axis, surrounded by a slower, denser, extended jet. The inner and outer jet components then have a different origin and launching mechanism, making their effective inertia,

Numerical Simulation of Radiatively Driven Transonic Relativistic Jets
We perform the numerical simulations of axisymmetric, relativistic, optically thin jets under the influence of the radiation field of an accretion disk.

Abstract String theory has strong implications for cosmology, implying the absence of a cosmological constant, ruling out single‐field slow‐roll inflation, and that black holes decay. The origins of these statements are elucidated within the string‐theoretical swampland programme.

An Unusual Change in the Radio Jets of GRS 1915+105
We compare Very Large Array observations of GRS 1915+105 made in 1994 and 2023, with nearly three decades of difference. The source has experienced intriguing major changes.

How do recollimation-induced instabilities shape the propagation of hydrodynamic relativistic jets?
Context. Recollimation is a phenomenon of particular importance in the dynamical evolution of jets and in the emission of high-energy radiation. Additionally, the full comprehension of this phenomenon provides insights into fundamental properties of jets

Abstract Earth's magnetotail and its plasma sheet are highly dynamic, influenced by both the solar wind and the inner magnetosphere. Periodically, energy is explosively released in the magnetotail during substorms. However, the extent to which electrons are accelerated in the magnetotail remains an open question, with recent observations revealing ...

Jump-starting Relativistic Flows and the M87 Jet
We point out the dominant importance of plasma injection effects of relativistic winds from pulsars and black holes. We demonstrate that outside the light cylinder, the magnetically dominated outflows sliding along the helical magnetic field move nearly ...
