Polaronic and Electrochemical Signatures in Group IVB (Ti, Zr, Hf) Oxides: Unified SKP–DFT Insights for Tunable Transport in Energy and Electronic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Charge carrier concentration and mobility in TiO2, ZrO2, and HfO2 powder films are experimentally mapped as a function of temperature. The results uncover polaron‐mediated transport regimes and field‐activated conduction, enabling the design of oxide‐based electronic and energy devices with thermally tunable functionality.

Fractal space frames and metamaterials for high mechanical efficiency

open access: yes, 2008
A solid slender beam of length $L$, made from a material of Young's modulus $Y$ and subject to a gentle compressive force $F$, requires a volume of material proportional to $L^{3}f^{1/2}$ [where $f\equiv F/(YL^{2})\ll 1$] in order to be stable against ...

Systolic blood pressure reduction during the first 24 h in acute heart failure admission: friend or foe? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Aims: Changes in systolic blood pressure (SBP) during an admission for acute heart failure (AHF), especially those leading to hypotension, have been suggested to increase the risk for adverse outcomes.

Revealing the Auxetic Behavior of Biomimetic Multimaterial and Region‐Specific Nanofibrous Fascicle‐Inspired Scaffolds via Synchrotron Multiscale Digital Volume Correlation: Innovative Building Blocks for the Enthesis Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Enthesis injuries are a worldwide healthcare problem. Biomimetic electrospun enthesis fascicle‐inspired scaffolds, with and without nano‐mineralization are developed. Human Mesenchymal Stromal cells (hMSCs) express the most balanced enthesis markers on the non‐mineralized scaffolds.

Sufficient Conditions for Feasibility and Optimality of Real-Time Optimization Schemes - II. Implementation Issues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The idea of iterative process optimization based on collected output measurements, or "real-time optimization" (RTO), has gained much prominence in recent decades, with many RTO algorithms being proposed, researched, and developed.

FE–BE Coupling Methods for Elastoplasticity

open access: yes, 1997
Non-linear physical systems of infinite extent are conveniently modelled using FE–BE coupling methods. By the combination of both methods, suitable use of the advantages of each one may be obtained.

Implementation of Drug‐Induced Rhabdomyolysis and Acute Kidney Injury in Microphysiological System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A modular Muscle–Kidney proximal tubule‐on‐a‐chip integrates 3D skeletal muscle and renal proximal tubule tissues to model drug‐induced rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury. The coculture system enables dynamic tissue interaction, functional contraction monitoring, and quantification of nephrotoxicity, revealing drug side effect‐induced metabolic ...

Metal-insulator transition and glassy behavior in two-dimensional electron systems

open access: yes, 2004
Studies of low-frequency resistance noise demonstrate that glassy freezing occurs in a two-dimensional electron system in silicon in the vicinity of the metal-insulator transition (MIT). The width of the metallic glass phase, which separates the 2D metal
