The immediate effects of 10-minute relaxation training on salivary immunoglobulin A (s-IgA) and mood state for Japanese female medical co-workers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This study examined the effects of relaxation training on salivary IgA (s-IgA) and mood state in Japanese female medical workers. Participants were enrolled and assigned to relaxation or control groups.

Multifunctional Protein Eutectogels Based on Polyphenolic: Zwitterionic Low‐Transition‐Temperature Mixtures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the first example of multifunctional protein eutectogels based on a tannic acid: betaine low‐transition‐temperature mixture, exhibiting elastomeric behavior, strong adhesion to various substrates, including biological tissues, and notable anti‐inflammatory properties derived from the natural polyphenol and zwitterion.

Relax NG

open access: yes, 2021

NG-nitro-L-arginine inhibits non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic relaxation in rabbit urethral smooth muscle

open access: yesLife Sciences, 1991
Electrical field stimulation induced a relaxation response in female rabbit urethral smooth muscle strips precontracted with phenylephrine. The relaxation response was inhibited by tetrodotoxin, but not by atropine, propranolol, or hexamethonium. The relaxation response thus results from stimulation of inhibitory non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic nerves.

Wafer‐Scale Integration of α‐quartz Thin Films toward Super High Frequency Piezoelectric bioNEMS for Chikungunya Virus Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Epitaxial piezoelectric α‐quartz/Si BioNEMS sensors, made using soft chemistry, effectively detect the Chikungunya virus. They have a mass sensitivity of 205 pg Hz−1 in liquid and can detect the virus at a limit of 9 ng mL−1. This development enables high‐frequency mass devices for point‐of‐care testing in healthcare and other electronic applications ...

Role of Crosslinking and Backbone Segmental Dynamics on Ion Transport in Hydrated Anion‐Conducting Polyelectrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thermally crosslinked poly(2‐vinylpyridine)‐based anion conducting polyelectrolytes have been synthesized. The segmental dynamics of these polyelectrolytes have been systematically modified by varying the degree of crosslinking. Both the experimental and simulation results indicate that segmental dynamics have a limited influence on ion transport in ...

Unprecedented Spin‐Lifetime of Itinerant Electrons in Natural Graphite Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Graphite exhibits extraordinary spintronic potential, with electron spin lifetimes reaching 1,000 ns at room temperature ‐ over 100 times longer than graphene‐based devices. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy reveals strong anisotropy: out‐of‐plane spins live 50 times longer than their in‐plane counterparts.

Hyperpolarized xenon nuclear spins detected by optical atomic magnetometry

open access: yes, 2004
We report the use of an atomic magnetometer based on nonlinear magneto-optical rotation with frequency modulated light (FM NMOR) to detect nuclear magnetization of xenon gas.

Mechanisms of L‐NG nitroarginine/indomethacin‐resistant relaxation in bovine and porcine coronary arteries [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, 1996
1. Coronary arteries from bovines (BCA) and pigs (PCA) were used for measuring endothelium-dependent relaxation in the presence of L-NG nitroarginine and indomethacin. As some compounds tested have been found to have an inhibitory effect on autacoid-activated endothelial Ca2+ signalling, endothelium-dependent relaxation was initiated with the Ca2 ...

Endothelial Cells Angiogenesis in Sulfated Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) Hydrogels Enhanced by Bioactive Glass‐Released Ions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A mechanically tunable hydrogel composed of gelatin, chondroitin sulfate and laminin promotes angiogenesis in vitro without the supplement of growth factors. Endothelial cells morphogenesis was further enhanced by medium conditioned with bioactive glass 58S‐released ions (Ca and Si), thus offering a promising strategy to vascularize 3D tissue ...
