N-Terminal pro C-Type Natriuretic Peptide (NTproCNP) and myocardial function in ageing.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Ageing-related alterations in cardiovascular structure and function are commonly associated with chronic inflammation. A potential blood-based biomarker indicative of a chronic inflammatory state is N-Terminal Pro C-Type Natriuretic Peptide (NTproCNP ...

Molecular reorientation in hydrogen-bonding liquids: through algebraic $\sim t^{-3/2}$ relaxation toward exponential decay

open access: yes, 2006
We present a model for the description of orientational relaxation in hydrogen-bonding liquids. The model contains two relaxation parameters which regulate the intensity and efficiency of dissipation, as well as the memory function which is responsible ...

A Robust Adaptive One‐Sample‐Ahead Preview Super‐Twisting Sliding Mode Controller

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
Block Diagram of the Robust Adaptive One‐Sample‐Ahead Preview Super‐Twisting Sliding Mode Controller. ABSTRACT This article introduces a discrete‐time robust adaptive one‐sample‐ahead preview super‐twisting sliding mode controller. A stability analysis of the controller by Lyapunov criteria is developed to demonstrate its robustness in handling both ...

Investigation of correlation between dielectric parameters and nanostructures in aqueous solution grown poly(vinyl alcohol)-montmorillonite clay nanocomposites by dielectric relaxation spectroscopy

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2010
Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-montmorillonite (MMT) clay nanocomposite films up to 10 wt% clay concentration were synthesized by aqueous solution grown technique. The relative complex dielectric function, alternating current electrical conductivity, electric

Mesoscopic Charge Relaxation

open access: yes, 2006
We consider charge relaxation in the mesoscopic equivalent of an RC circuit. For a single-channel, spin-polarized contact, self-consistent scattering theory predicts a universal charge relaxation resistance equal to half a resistance quantum independent ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Decay results for viscoelastic diffusion equations in absence of instantaneous elasticity

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2012
We study the diffusion equation in the absence of instantaneous elasticity $$ u_t-int_0^{t}g(t-au )Delta u(au ),dau =0,quad (x,t)in Omega imes (0,+infty ), $$ where $Omega subset mathbb{R}^n$, subjected to nonlinear boundary conditions.

Stretched exponential relaxation in the Coulomb glass

open access: yes, 2001
The relaxation of the specific heat and the entropy to their equilibrium values is investigated numerically for the three-dimensional Coulomb glass at very low temperatures. The long time relaxation follows a stretched exponential function, $f(t)=f_0\exp[
