Orbital-Order Driven Ferroelectricity and Dipolar Relaxation Dynamics in Multiferroic GaMo$_4$S$_8$ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We present the results of broadband dielectric spectroscopy of GaMo$_4$S$_8$, a lacunar spinel system that recently was shown to exhibit non-canonical, orbitally-driven ferroelectricity.

The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.

Coexistence of the Critical Slowing Down and Glassy Freezing in Relaxor Ferroelectrics

open access: yes, 1999
We have developed a dynamical model for the dielectric response in relaxor ferroelectrics which explicitly takes into account the coexistence of the critical slowing down and glassy freezing.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Influence of neutron and gamma irradiation on the electrocaloric properties of Mn-doped 0.9Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3–0.1PbTiO3 ceramics

open access: yesJPhys Energy, 2023
The influence of neutron and gamma irradiation on the low- and high-field dielectric and electrocaloric (EC) properties of Mn-doped 0.9Pb(Mg _1/3 Nb _2/3 )O _3 –0.1PbTiO _3 (PMN–10PT) ceramic is studied.

First Principles Theories of Piezoelectric Materials

open access: yes, 2007
Piezoelectrics have long been studied using parameterized models fit to experimental data, starting with the work of Devonshire in 1954. Much has been learned using such approaches, but they can also miss major phenomena if the materials properties are ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Development of Ferroelectric Order in Relaxor (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 - xPbTiO3

open access: yes, 2002
The microstructure and phase transition in relaxor ferroelectric Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 (PMN) and its solid solution with PbTiO3 (PT), PMN-xPT, remain to be one of the most puzzling issues of solid state science.

Finite-size effects in lead scandium tantalate relaxor thin films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Large electromechanical effects in relaxor ferroelectrics are generally attributed to the collective response of an ensemble of correlated, nanometer-sized polar structures induced by chemical and charge disorder.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.
