Reliability-based sensitivity analysis of ships
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part M: Journal of Engineering for the Maritime Environment, 2005Failure of a ship hull girder is a very important failure mode, which is normally catastrophic and has severe consequences. It is of great importance to predict accurately the ultimate strength of a hull girder so that an adequate but not excessive safety margin for this failure can be ensured in the ship design.

Reliability Based Structural Design using Continuum Sensitivity Analysis
56th AIAA/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2015Reliability based design of structural systems is necessary to account for the randomness in loads, structural geometry, material properties, manufacturing processes, and operational environment. Probabilistic methods are commonly used for reliability based design. Gradients of the objective and limit state functions that are required during stochastic

Reliability-based sensitivity analysis for prestressed concrete girder bridges
PCI Journal, 2013In this paper, the authors calculate the reliability indices for prestressed concrete girders using new statistical parameters for materials and load components. Various types of girders are considered, with spans ranging from 80 to 200 feet and girder spacings from 8 to 10 feet.

Reliability Engineering & System Safety, 2021
Abstract In this work, we present a priori error estimates for local reliability-based sensitivity analysis. The Score Function Method and the Weak Approach using Monte Carlo Simulation are studied. The results are important for practical choice of parameters in local sensitivity analysis.

Sensitivity analysis for reliability-based optimization using an AFOSM method
Computers & Structures, 1987A method of design sensitivity analysis for a failure probability is presented and formulas are derived, such that a gradient-based optimization technique can be applied for a general reliability-based optimal design formulation. It is based on using an advanced first order second moment method (AFOSM) in evaluating the probability.

Engineering Geology, 2021
Abstract Slopes are frequently stabilized by reinforcement measures in geological and geotechnical engineering. Effectiveness of reinforcement measures is vital to slope failure risk mitigation, but it is affected by geological and geotechnical uncertainties arising from loads, geological formations and geotechnical properties.

Sensitivity Analysis in Reliability-Based Lifetime Performance Prediction Using Simulation
Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2005The time-varying performance of deteriorating materials and structures can be simulated using probabilistic methods. The propagation of performance uncertainties is affected by the characteristics of input random variables. In general, the number of samples and/or their quality do not satisfy the rigorous statistical constraints required to obtain ...
