Reliability Estimation Using Validity Coefficients
The Journal of Experimental Education, 1986Occasionally situations arise in which a measurement does not lend itself to such traditional methods of reliability estimation as the test-retest, parallel-test, or internal consistency methods, for example, because a single item variable or an index based on heterogeneous data is involved.

Reliability Coefficients of Three Corneal Pachymeters
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1992We compared the accuracy and reproducibility of a hand-held portable ultrasound pachymeter, the Pach-Pen (Bio-Rad, Ophthalmic Division, Santa Ana, California); another ultrasound pachymeter, the DGH 1000 (DGH Technology, Inc., Frazer, Pennsylvania); and the Pro-Cem 4 endothelial specular microscope (Alcon-Surgical, Inc., Irvine, California).

Generalizability coefficients are reliability coefficients
Quality & Quantity, 1995Generalizability theory explicitly recognizes that multiple sources of error and true score variance exist and that measures may have different reliabilities in different situations. Thus, it enjoys many advantages over classic true score theory; however, it is relatively little used by social science researchers outside of educational psychology. This

Averaging Internal Consistency Reliability Coefficients
Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2006Seven approaches to averaging reliability coefficients are presented. Each approach starts with a unique definition of the concept of “average,” and no approach is more correct than the others. Six of the approaches are applicable to internal consistency coefficients. The seventh approach is specific to alternate-forms coefficients.

Psychometrika, 1942
The reliability coefficient is unlike other measures of correlation in that it is a quantitative statement of an act of judgment,—usually the test maker's, — that the things correlated are similar measures. Attempts to divorce it from this act of judgment are misdirected, just as would be an attempt to eliminate judgment of sameness of function of ...

Specificity-enhanced reliability coefficients.
Psychological Methods, 2017Internal consistency reliability coefficients based on classical test theory, such as α, ω, λ₄, model-based ρxx, and the greatest lower bound ρglb, are computed as ratios of estimated common variance to total variance. They omit specific variance. As a result they are downward-biased and may fail to predict external criteria (McCrae et al., 2011). Some

Testing Reliability Hypotheses Based on Coefficient Alpha [PDF]
We show how to test hypotheses for coefficient alpha in three different situations: (1) Hypothesis tests of whether coefficient alpha equals a prespecified value. (2) Hypothesis tests involving two statistically independent sample alphas as may arise when testing the equality of coefficient alpha across groups.

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 2004
Methods of reliability generalization characterize the reliability of a scale's scores across studies. Charter in 2003 presented useful formulae for computing combined estimates of reliability. The present article illustrates use of Charter's formulae and application of confidence intervals for reliability coefficients, including the combined estimate.

Coefficient Alpha: A Reliability Coefficient for the 21st Century?
Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, 2011Coefficient alpha is almost universally applied to assess reliability of scales in psychology. We argue that researchers should consider alternatives to coefficient alpha. Our preference is for structural equation modeling (SEM) estimates of reliability because they are informative and allow for an empirical evaluation of the assumptions underlying ...

Coefficient alpha and related internal consistency reliability coefficients.
Psychological Methods, 2000The author studied the conditions under which coefficient alpha and 10 related internal consistency reliability coefficients underestimate the reliability of a measure. Simulated data showed that alpha, though reasonably robust when computed on n components in moderately heterogeneous data, can under certain conditions seriously underestimate the ...
