An "Umbrella" Bound of the Lov\'asz-Gallager Type

open access: yes, 2013
We propose a novel approach for bounding the probability of error of discrete memoryless channels with a zero-error capacity based on a combination of Lov\'asz' and Gallager's ideas.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Psychometric Evaluation of the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale in Adults with Functional Limitations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Enjoyment is an important construct for understanding physical activity participation, and it has not been examined in adults with functional limitations.

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Robust Dynamic Selection of Tested Modules in Software Testing for Maximizing Delivered Reliability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Software testing is aimed to improve the delivered reliability of the users. Delivered reliability is the reliability of using the software after it is delivered to the users. Usually the software consists of many modules. Thus, the delivered reliability

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A Probabilistic Approach for Threshold Reliability Structures with Three Different Types of Components

open access: yesMathematics
In the present work, we study threshold reliability systems consisting of three different kinds of independent components. Within these structures, the components belonging to the same type, share a common reliability and the same weight. The reliability

Reliability and Its Quantitative Measures [PDF]

open access: yes
In this article is made an opening for the software reliability issues, through wide-ranging statistical indicators, which are designed based on information collected from operating or testing (samples).

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Assessing the Reliability Function of Nanocomponents [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Probability, 2011
A nanocomponent is a collection of atoms arranged to a specific design in order to achieve a desired function with an acceptable performance and reliability. The type of atoms, the manner in which they are arranged within the nanocomponent, and their interrelationship have a direct effect on the nanocomponent's reliability (survival) function.
