Switched-reluctance motor drives

Electronics and Power, 1983
It is now 150 years since Wheatstone demonstrated the first reluctance motor. This article outlines the recent significant advances in switched-reluctance motor drives which now make them serious contenders not only to inverter-fed machines but also to the established DC-motor ...

Hybrid Drive of a Variable Flux Reluctance Motor and Switched Reluctance Motor

2018 XIII International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM), 2018
A current superimposition variable flux reluctance motor for a traction motor of electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles are proposed. This motor can be driven using a 6-phase asymmetric inverter which is used to drive a switched reluctance motor. However, it is difficult to obtain a high efficiency in a low-speed and high-torque region.

Vector Control Specialized for Switched Reluctance Motor Drives

IEEJ Transactions on Industry Applications, 2014
SUMMARYThis paper proposes vector control specialized for a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive. Because it is a unipolar drive, a sinusoidal current with a dc offset is applied to each circuit instead of the conventional trapezoidal current. The current consists of dc and ac components which can be identified by their generation of a (virtual) rotor

Switched reluctance motor drive by using fuzzy controller

Proceedings of the IECON'97 23rd International Conference on Industrial Electronics, Control, and Instrumentation (Cat. No.97CH36066), 2002
In this paper, fuzzy control application of linear inductance switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives with the C-Dump power converter is presented. A mathematical model of the SRM, by considering mutual inductances, is obtained. The study aims at reducing the torque ripple and the acoustic noise and is carried out by a simulation model by using an ...

Self synchronizing torque control of reluctance motor drives

PESC Record. 27th Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 2002
The paper presents a new torque control scheme for synchronous reluctance motor drives that does not require any position transducer to synchronize the stator current vector with the rotor position, thus allowing a reliable and low cost realization as required in medium performance electric drives.

Uninterruptible motor drives: a case study with switched reluctance motor drives

Proceedings of IECON'94 - 20th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics, 2002
Uninterrupted operation of motor drives is of interest in many applications. To maintain uninterrupted operation of this motor drives during utility power failures, it is customary to install uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and these may be on- or offline operated to provide continuous power supply to the process drives.

Electrical drive system for switched reluctance motor

2008 Second International Conference on Electrical Engineering, 2008
This paper presents a controller for four phase, 8/6 poles switched reluctance motor (SRM). The main focus of this paper is the role of the controller. Zero reference proximity switch, absolute encoder, the electronic cam positioner, the classic converter, (10 - 150) VDC main supply and the mentioned motor have been employed to perform this drive ...

Opportunities for switched reluctance motor-drives

Conference Record of 1999 Annual Pulp and Paper Industry Technical Conference (Cat. No.99CH36338), 2003
With the advent of smart, miniaturized low cost and highly versatile electronic motor controls, a number of new motor technologies are now available for a wide range of applications. The switched reluctance motor-drive package is one such technology that is emerging as a potential workhorse over a large horsepower and speed range.

Switched Reluctance Motor Drives

2011
The chapter is devoted to Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) drives. Firstly nonlinear magnetizing curves of SRM are presented and their importance for motor’s operation is discussed. The model presented in the chapter takes into account these nonlinear characteristics depending on phase current and rotor position angle, but ignores mutual magnetization ...

Reluctance motor drive based on fuzzy logic

Proceedings of Third Australian and New Zealand Conference on Intelligent Information Systems. ANZIIS-95, 2002
This paper presents an application of fuzzy logic to control the speed of a switched reluctance motor (SRM). Based on the analysis of the SRM's transient response, a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is developed. The FLC generates the variations of the reference current (or reference torque) of the SRM speed control, based on the speed error and its change.
