ABSTRACT Post‐resuscitation cardiac arrest care begins at the time of hospital admission and focuses on preventing the sequelae of ischemia–reperfusion injury, including secondary brain damage and post‐cardiac arrest syndrome. Clinical practice guidelines on post‐resuscitation cardiac arrest care from international medical organizations outline ...

Remifentanil reduces the release of biochemical markers of myocardial damage in patients undergoing on pump coronary artery bypass surgery [PDF]
INTERVENTIONS: Patients randomized to the remifentanil group (n = 20) received a 1 µg/kg bolus followed by 0.5 µg/kg/min infusion for 30 minutes after induction but before sternotomy, whilst the control group (n = 20) received normal saline.

ABSTRACT Gasping respiration enhances survival chances during cardiac arrest by activating the suprahyoid muscles (SHMs), which are crucial for airway dilation. We previously reported that the high concentration of sevoflurane (6.5%: 2.0 minimum alveolar concentration, MAC) leads to gasping‐like respiration in mice.

Managing Prolonged Pain After Surgery: Examining the Role of Opioids. [PDF]
A notable minority of patients experience persistent postsurgical pain and some of these patients consequently have prolonged exposure to opioids. Risk factors for prolonged opioid use after surgery include preoperative opioid use, anxiety, substance ...

Patient‐Controlled Sedation in Port Implantation (PACSPI 2)—A Randomised Clinical Trial
ABSTRACT Optimising pain management during subcutaneous venous port (SVP) implantation is essential for patient‐centred cancer care. However, evidence‐based approaches to minimise intraoperative pain remain underexplored. This trial evaluated the clinical effectiveness and safety of the propofol‐alfentanil patient‐controlled sedation (PCS) technique as

Summary Introduction Postoperative pain after cardiac surgery remains significant despite the administration of opioids. Methadone may improve pain control and decrease the need for postoperative opioids. Randomised controlled trials, however, are limited and the effects of cardiopulmonary bypass on methadone pharmacokinetics are unclear.
